thanks!

Im at that point in the project where you can spend hours working on something and have a model that basically looks the same. The biggest pain was making a Y shaped pushrod for the elevons. I ended up soldering some steel pushrods together. I'm adding some photos of the under side of the model.

thanks guys!

This model was originally designed to be just another test rig for a larger version I'm dreaming up. However, this model seems to be the perfect size for most modelers. The model is small enough to be fairly easy to transport in one piece. I am now thinking of offering the plans plus a laser cut short kit including all the ply parts, outter wing panels, vertical fins, rudders and elevons. All wood the builder would need is what is needed to make up the nacelle sides, cowling, and sheeting. I even had the nose ring laser cut to make cowl construction easier. Let me know what you guys think. I'm working on pricing right now.

Oh no, don't tell me you're going to kit it...

Now I'm thinking about twin .32SXs on it.

What are the specs? I believe you started out at twin .46's?

I'm interested and I have a pair of .32's and probably 99% of the hardware, wood, and readio gear...

Price would be nice to know too but to be honest specs are more important at this point...

Evan,
After your
Dual Dust this would be right up your alley. Is that thing still flying? If so I look forward to seeing it go on June 28!

Ok guys... Here are some of the specs..

Length: 60 inches
Span: 39 inches
Weight: 5.5-6lbs
Price: $110 (aprox. for plans plus laser cut parts)

3 standard servos, 2 mini servos, 10oz fuel tanks (2x)

Of course the weight is just a rough guess based on the current weight of the airframe plus hardware and additional materials. I think a pair of .32sx's would be perfect for this model. Ive got a pair of Pro 36's already broken in that weigh close to the .32's

Yes right up my alley... I'll probably bring electric to fly, so much easier and still 200mph... Did you ever see pixs of my Connie?

Ive got a little more done. But no photos yet. I fitted the left engine on the mount and then used the spinner to position the lite ply nose ring. I started building up the cowl with balsa carving the rough shape as I go. I hope to finish the left cowl tonite so I can start on the right side. I had plenty of clearance for a 10 inch prop but I will probably use something like a 9x6 or 9x7. I hope to have some more photos to post tomorrow.

Beechin'!!
That's a lot of balsa to keep track of as you move the plane around to work on various spots, I'll bet it's real easy to make as many dents as you take other dents out. You're making great progress, keep up the good work.

Rene:

Just logging in here. I didn''t realize this thread existed. I love your projects. You could have been the third "Wright Brother", the way you experiment and refuse to be defeated.

I''m currently building my second Laddie M. "Arrow", so anything on deltas is fascinating.

I''ve always loved the F-106, as my old Air Guard unit flew them during the Cold War. It''s real tempting. By using Laddie''s method of mounting the engine high in the vertical fin, the CG problems with the long nose go away, and prop clearance issues vanish. (Both problems with that F-4 I built, which is still with us and will fly some more this summer.)

Here''s the specs I worked up for a Dart:

Wingspan: 51"
OAL: 90.27"
WA: 820 square inches (approx)
Power: .91 2 stroke
Prop: 13x8 2 blade
Engine location: pod mounted on vertical fin, tractor configuration, fuel tank in pod
Main Wheels: 3.5"
Nose Wheel: 2.25"
20" of nose to be removable for transport, wings removable for transport. (Ala Arrow design)
Robart spring down retracts. Main struts 7/16, nose 3/8
Bob Violett air brakes.
Deployable drag chute
Target weight less fuel: 9 lbs.
Target wing loading: 25 oz/square foot

Regards

Defenitly keep m informed on when this kit will be avaible. I have a couple of TT40 that are very reliable. And I have a couple ideas that should help in the rotation of this bird on take off. Nyrod realy arn''t that bad as long as you ancker the sleves where ever possible. You mite want to maybe put a gyro to help with the pitch of here to. But mostly if you program expo in your ailerons that should help take care of the twikiness of her. Again please keep me posted on when the kit will be avaible.

The rotation problem was solved. I just moved the mains closer to the CG. After that, the model rotated fine once it built up enough speed. Also, I didnt find the pitch to be overly sensitive. I figured the model might be sensitive along the pitch axis so I added about 90% expo. That seemed to be ok. The model seemed to fly better at full throttle... or maybe that was just me having more fun. It seemed more stable which was good because I kept the engines running pretty much wide open most of the time to make sure they both stayed lit. Roll was a little twichy at low speeds but not by too much.
