Status: offline 		I just picked up a $18 gallon of 15% cool power for my Saitos. I ran out my stock of trusty S&W and bought what the LHS had on hand. I have never run Coolpower before and am a bit reluctant.

The bottle says that the fuel contains special rust inhibitors and anti-oxidants, so after run oil is not required. This sounds like 'branding' to me. Branding is where a company adds a drop of snake oil to their product and then claims their product contains a secret special ingrediant that makes it better than all the competition.

Also, the bottle does not list the amount of lubricant. I found on the morgan fuel website that it is 18%, but they don't say if that is by volume or by weight. Does anyone know? I plan to add castor to bring it up to 20% by volume.

Status: offline 		I remember reading on RCU that it's by volume. Who knows for sure unless they evaporated a sample to see what was left over?

As far as additives, I believe it is all smoke and mirrors. If you normally use after-run I think you should continue to do so. CP is not going to pay for your engine repairs so you have to do what makes you feel comfortable.

Why bother adding Castor, use it as is, 4 strokes don't need as much oil as 2 strokes, check this Saito site, http://saito-engines.info/fuel.html
I have been using Cool Power oil for years, no carbon build up, no nasty crap on the outside of the engines, & they all run sweet.
But I have always used after run oil & will continue to do so.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the replies. I returned the bottle to the hobby shop. It very well may be great fuel but Morgan's extravagant advertising claims are too much for me to swallow.

Status: offline 		Castor protects against high temps by coating metal in a protective varnish when it starts to burn. Synthetics burn into an ash that doesn't protect. Castor has a higher flash point. Castor will help prevent rust.

But, it is the engine owners call what he uses.

I add a couple of ounces of castor to Omega now.

If your oil is burning, your engine is getting too hot, probably running too lean, I agree it is the engine owners choice, but sometimes, new technology, is better than old.
To each his own, I will continue to use my choice & I respect everyone's decision as to what oil they decide to use.

Hi blw,

I guess thats being a little paranoid, omega already have castor in it - adding more would only relieve spirits not your engine . thats strictly being my opinion; no offence.

As I have observed in our field where Omega and CP being heavily used (all OS surpass and Saitos); the only difference between omega users and CP users engines is the stains on omega users exhausts.. no difference in performance as we always share the rpm readings and general engine performance. I really believe these 4 strokes will run just right without any problems of overheating & wear n tear effects or rust problems as long as they've got at least 17% or more oil (straight synt or syth & castor mix).

BUT; i believe in small (0-90 size) 2 stroke engines where there is much more RPM, friction and heat produced; having a certain amount of castor oil would greatly reduce the wear n tear effects on the engine.

Status: offline 		Can't speak for Saito, but Magnum recommends a small amount of castor for their 4 strokes. The Castor residue helps to seat and seal the piston ring better, improving performance and compression. Its part of the break in process for the Magnums. Seems to me the Saitos could benefit from a small amount of castor as well.

The difference between Cool Power and Omega is the castor content. Cool Power is all synthetic, whereas Omega has about 2 percent castor. I personally run the omega in all my engines. Yes I get some residue, but the castor provides better protection in the event of a lean run.

As for extravagant claims about after run oil not being necessary with Morgan fuels - in four years of using Omega, I've never used after run oil. That includes winter, summer, and float flying. I've never had a corrosion related problem. Engines are OS LA 46, Thunder Tiger Pro 46 (2), Thunder Tiger GP 61, Magnum 91 FSR.

The engines I've disassembled have all had lots of oil remaining in the appropriate parts.

True...
It's actually 5.1% castor. I doubt that the difference between "about 2%" or "5.1%" will impact anyone's purchase decision very much.

Status: offline 		Probably not, but it was just to set the record straight using the information provided by the fuel's manufacturer.

It just seems that people "blend their own" numbers when talking about fuel, and the info is more often than not...inaccurate.
