I have bent 2 shocks and broken 2 front lower control arms and the ones that I replaced them with have a lot of play due to the hinge pin holes being oval after running them for a little while. I need to replace the tire foams already. I have upgraded the clutch bell and now have the single gear tranny, which I was assuming would slow down on the spur gear problem, and it didn't. I make sure the mesh is set and that the motor is straight every time, but if the spur gears that I get are out of round ( They wobble a little on the shaft, and I have tried a couple of different shafts with the same result ), it does not matter if the I set it the right way. They will still wear, right?

my tmaxx's spurs wobble too, make sure you dont have the mest too tight, there should be a slight, very slight bit of play between the gears

I set it with a piece of printer paper. I just want my truck to break a little less than it does now! I would love to buy some more Redcat RC's, but I need find out how to fix the spur gear problem the most! I know that you occasionally have to change out a spur gear no matter what brand you have, but I do it like every other time I run it! I know other people that have the more popular brands and they do it about a 1/4 of the times that I do! Why?

I have the 13T that came with the single gear tranny from Clermont. Do you know where I can get a good price on a vented 13T? Do you recommend another size bell?

your ripping the 44 tooth spur out of the upgrade tranmission? There must be a problem, make sure the clutch bell's teeth are not too sharp or have ridges in them or somehting. see if dennis has the 13tooth vented if not try towerhobbies.com

Yes! Twice within a month! Could running it on pavement have something to do with it? Maybe since there is no clutch, the tires need to be able to slip a little, like in dirt! I think that a vented clutch bell might help, because the clutch bell is heating up the spur gear and making it softer! I didn't think of that! Maybe we fixed my problem, I hope! Thank you for the help!

Would changing the tooth size on the clutch bell change the stress that the motor puts on the the gear? If I went up a tooth, would it put less stress on the spur gear?

yes, it would give you less low end too, try a 15 tooth.

I was noticing the other day that my chassis is bent and causing the motor the sit at a funny angle and that is what was eating up my spur gears! A little sturdier chassis would be great! They could even make some braces, like they have on the 1/8 scale R/C's.

I run my Caldera in some of the worst conditions dirt sand dirt clods the size of your fist.  after changing the spur gear 30 times and a new transmission I started experimenting with different types of slipper pads and found a flaky thin hard rubber about 3mm thick that just takes the shock away from the spur gear and transmission.  Yes they are a pain to make But well worth the time since steel spur gears are non existent This idea realy paid of.
