I looked on the box, in the manual, on MRC's site and searched the net for warranty info on the Super Brain 989. It has to be the worlds best kept secret. Anyone know how long the warranty is on MRC products? Thanks.

We warranty it for 1 year against factory defect. But we're pretty good about taking care of any problems.

Hi, I have a problem with my charger.
I have the super brain 989 and its not more than a couple months old, i have been charging up my lipos and they have all worked great until the other day I came in and put another battery on the charger. I pluged in the charger and the dislplay screen came up and it looked like it was ready to go so I pluged the battery in. Right after I pluged the battery in there was a real brightly glowing wire or somehting inside the charger and plumes of smoke came pouring out through the ventilation holes. luckily I tested my battery and I believe it didnt fry the battery but I have no clue as to what is wrong with the charger. I also saw that it almost melted the leads that plug into the ac power adapter box.

Has anyone else experienced a problem as bad as this? Is there a way to fix it or should I just try to see if its still covered under warranty.

I had the same problem as davidgeorge212. I used the 989 to charge my LiPo’s and never had a problem. I used it lat week at the flying field to charge my 500mA NiCad battery and after circs 20 sec. the charger started to smoke. I opened the charger and found that one of the MOSFET’s (IRF4905) was burned . I replaced the MOSFET and tried to charge the same battery again and it started to charge at the correct current and amperage but 10or 20 sec it started to smoke again . This time it is a different transistor (T404 BE5G11). The charger is less then 2 month old. I should have sent it in for repair but after I changed the MOSFET myself I don’t think that MRC will accept this issue under warranty. The charger looked very promising with all the features and the power supply included but this is the second incident that I found on the web with this charger and NiCad batteries. Please be careful out there.

P.S. The battery did not cause the problem. My good old Simprop charged it without any problems.
