I have a 10SXII so it's not an issue, I can do either. I have the option to either Y my elevator servos (digital so I can reverse the direction of one of them) or two separate channels and mix.

6 of one, half dozen of another?

If you don't use programmable digital servos, then separate channels allow you trim each servo to center/match elevator halves without tinkering with linkages.

Of course, separate channels allows you to create an ailevator mix for some more violent snaps/rolls.

I can't even imagine using a Y if the mixing option is available. After witnessing and reading the troubles people have encountered using especially the reversing Y's. The use of a separate channel allows for independent adjustment of neutral and end point adjustment (throw) for each servo to allow for differences in individual servos. My Tx allows for this on my aileron channels but not for my elevator. As soon as I can afford it this Tx will be history and the new one will definately allow for using a separate channel for each elevator half. Only way to go in my opinion.

The one drawback of separate channels is that unless you're flying a 9Z, if you are using digital servos youa re going to see a noticable lag between the movement of the master servo and the slave servo. this lag is pretty small, and has been in existence as long as we've all been using mixing; however, the digitals make it more visible and pronounced.
