I know there are some people that do that. I just can't see how with the slight taper from the inboard end to the tip. If I practiced, or had a much larger saw, I could probably get it down. I just don't want to take a chance and mess up so I carve it down close, then sand it right on. A palm sander does make things go quicker, you just need to use a finer sand paper like 200 grit. I've also seen the dremel tool planer atatchment that looks way cool for this process.
