Thanks for the comments Barry. I can't wait until Spring!! What size kit are you looking to build? 50cc, 100cc, or a glow powered plane? There are lots of options out there. For a first kit I'd go with something with an interlocking fuse. It helps get them strait. Aero Works, Colombo Anderson, Dalton, Carden, and Aero Tech are a few of the gasser kit makers. For glow powered, Great Planes, Sig, Midwest, and Lanier are a few. And there is more I'm sure. I like kits with pre-sheeted wings and tail serfaces if they are foam. It cuts out a lot of work. Is the Tango a kit or ARF? I've looked at the EF Extra and I think it would be a keeper! I may have to save my pennies for one. Its lighter than the Yak so I think we'd be ok up here.

Clark is dealing with bad back issues, but he is hoping to get the surgury done soon and get back to normal. I'm glad to hear yours went well! Sounds like you have a couple more to go though.

If you do go to TF, definately give me a ring. I'd like to go. Hope your family has a great Christmas and New Year!!

Steve

Nice Steve! Have you ever built the 31% version?

I'm thinking about picking up one of the 30% versions of the 330L.

Yea Ben,
I've build one 31% and two of the 27% Extras. I like the way the CA Models build, light and strong. How are you doing on that Dalton?

Well, I keep running in to problems with the Dalton, but they're related to my current situation and not the manufacturer. Dalton has been flawless in customer support and the kept is awesome.

Basically, I've recently moved back to TX and I bought a house. So, I don't think I can afford to crash a 35% plane and so I'm going to stick to something smaller. Then there is the cost of moving and now that I have a house, I need to watch what I buy. I really want a kit I can build myself, but I need something that I don't need to sheet the wings. My parents bought a workbench for me, but you can't sheet wings on it right now because the surface is not perfect flat. I need to either have it planned down or get a piece of marble to put on top of it to sheet on. So, I'm trying to find something that maybe I can build and that won't break the bank. I'd like to get an EF Yak or the Extra 300 that's about to be available, but shipping on those things is over $100 alone. Another thing that is making me think about the CA Extra is because people rave about how they fly and Brillelli is working on an 80cc engine, which I think would be perfect. I just need to do some research.

You will enjoy the kit. I flew my 31%er with the 3W 75us and it was plenty. It also ballanced with that motor. The only problem with CA right now is finding them instock. I think you can get one through www.netboxhobby.com but I think they will also have to order it. I've looked at their web and they don't show any of the Extras in stock. The next best thing is the Aero Works Edge kit. You can probably get a good deal on one right now if you ask. I think they were a CA design, or close to. Construction should be very similar and the wings and tail come pre-sheeted. Hope you can get that Dalton up soon!!

That plane looks huge. Was it an ARF? I've seen it on the CA web site.

Tinkered on the plane a little yesterday and got the reciever tubes in the fuse. I also mounted the throtle servo just forward of the fuel tank. I painted the inside of the fuse, this is the first time I've done this, and it didn't turn out too bad. "Weight",,, probably a little, but I wanted to try it.

Great building project Steve. Very nice work. I am about to buy the same kit, my lhs have one at sale for a very long time and I am looking for a 33-35% bird. I have an order for the new h9 suk, but I will cancell it due to the realese delay.
I think a da85 will do great with the extra. I know that almost everyone here is using a 100cc twin engines, but with some weight reduction mods the 85 will be a excelent choice, I hope.
The 27% with a da50 builded light have more power than really needed, if that could be.
Any thought will be welcome.

Alejandro.

Thanks Alejandro,

I think the DA 85 would be a great motor if you watched your weight on equipment and did a little lightening. You will enjoy building one of these. They are good kits. Keep us posted!!
