Status: offline 		Howard, Eddie here, I started to change mine over to robart hinges but decided to use ca hinges instead..

The ca hinges will work fine on this plane and it was a lot easier. My last hanger 9 100" cub had ca hinges
And had lots of flights without any hinge problems at all..

Howard,

I replaced all of the hinges with Robart 1/8" Point Hinges on the tail surfaces and DuBro 1/4 Scale hinges on the ailerons. I always replace the CA hinges. My preference over 47 years of building and flying. And I've even had the epoxy bond break on these type hinges in rare occasions, so I know it can happen. I think more "stout" hinges, if nothing else, have a longer useful life in an aircraft, particularly one where your running a gasoline engine and prone to much more vibration. And I'm not a 3-D flyer!!

Status: offline 		Im attaching the tail wires. Top ones are easy enough, what about the bottom wores? No location info in the manual.....for that matter, no info on where the tail wheel sits. Am i trying to line up the rearward tailwheel hole so the wires sit straight? Thanks!

Status: offline 		hidaven, There should be two holes in the aft bottom fuselage that you will need to remove the covering from those two holes to attach the tail wheel assembly. Look closely and you should be able to see where those pre-drilled holes are. There should already be blind nuts installed in the holes so be careful when using your hobby knife not to nick the threads of the blind nut as that can make the bolt not thread in easily. The bottom tail support wires will attach to the furthest rearward hole in the fuselage with the rear bolt for the tail wheel assembly.

Use blue Loctite (#242) on EVERY metal to metal nut and bolt. But! NEVER use Loctite with plastic nuts and bolts or with the metal locknuts with plastic in them. The Loctite will deteriorate the plastic and cause it to fail.

Motor standoffs came up 1/8" short so I sandwiched the drilling template between the standoffs and the firewall after covering with aluminium and machine turning.
E-Flite Power 160
NanoTech 10s 35-70c 5000mah
Castle HV120 v2 esc
Dubro 6" air tires
Did not do the Oring conversion yet...the springs feel super stiff....wondering if they are using better springs these days...I bought a bag of Orings just in case

I think electric wires need a grommet in the hole when ran thru metal firewalls. Prevents the metal from wearing thru the wire insulation.

Redundancy is not the best word to use here... I think having an rx battery that is separate from the motor battery is a good idea. Any failure in the motor system, batter, ESC, etc should still allow for a normal dead stick landing. When using a BEC this may not be the case. This is how I setup my giant scale electrics... These planes use 5000-5800 mah 10 cell batteries and 90+ amp ESC...

I just picked up a dle 30 that I feel would power the plane nicely. Can anyone show me some photos of their installs? I am thinking that the normal stand off's might be to long? I am also wondering about how/where the fuel tank should go- let me know guys - thanks!

Status: offline 		Blitzpig, Here are my throttle and tank hook up pictures. My J-3 is finished and tuned and ready for the test flight. Just waiting on the tornado's and wind to get past. The throttle and choke arms are PSP brand for the Walbro ordered from Chief Aircraft. They have dual set screws to keep them tight. The fuel filler is the gas version by slimline also from Chief Aircraft...

I plan to power mine the same, reports have been good with the 20, let me know what you think after you ger some air under the tires. Thank's, Mike.
