I realize that it's no big news to everybody else, but I built my first wing today. The coroplast showed up today, so I went to work. It only took three hours. I expected my first wing to take longer after reading other threads about how tough it was to make the first wing. I used thin ca because it was what i had sitting around, and it worked just fine. Didn't even have to clean the plastic, just flashed it. Anyway, thanks for all the support and advice from all you more experienced guys, and all you new guys, don't get discouraged by anyone elses negative threads. It's easy, cheap, and feels extremely sturdy. Stick with it. Pics to follow if I can get ahold of a digital camera.

Wolfgang,

Congratulations! Feels great, doesn't it? I agree with what Woodsy said about seeing it fly for the first time. Nothing like it, unless you take up skydiving.

Why, I remember my first Deb; when one of those "jumpin' trees" that we have here in East Texas got ahold of it, the wing came off and fluttered to the ground. Since it was a 4mil, double-spar wing, I just picked it up and used it to chop the tree down to get the fuselage out!

That reminds me of another whopper about a Bass I caught last year on a Berkley Power Worm; he was so big that his picture alone weighed two pounds!

WARNING: BS QUOTA EXCEEDED! THIS PROGRAM WILL BE SHUT DOWN!

Blue skies,
DL

Congrats, you made it easily past the point that usually gives first time builders the most trouble, the wing. The rest is pie. Let us know how flight 1 goes.

My wings have gotten a lot better and built faster since I built a leading edge Jig. If you aren't using one I highly recommend you build one.

Thanks for the advice. I do intend to build me a jig before long. Unfortunately, it may be a while before my first flight. My company closed it's doors at the end of December, and I haven't been able to work steady since. So, money is a little too tight to buy the radio gear and engine yet. However, I'm so excited about spad that I built a second wing last night. Only took 2 hours! Looks better than my first too.

Sounds like you have already been Infected by the SPAD bug.

Unfortunately their is no cure. Pretty soon you won't be able to go into a Lowes or Home Depot without wandering up and down the isles trying to figure out how to make planes out of just about every building material you see.

The good news is that you are in good company and will have a good support group right here in this forum.
