So I got a TT-01 NSX and want to start drifting. I bought a black 2" Black ABS pipe and wants to know the best way to cut it.

So far, the options are:

Miter Box & Hand Saw $6 - Cuts are rough and it melts part of the ABS Pipe
2" Pipe Cutter at HomeDepot $30 - Not sure if the cutter can cut it straight and smooth
Miter Saw & Abrasive disc or Diamond saw $100+ I might have to get it this weekend, if I can't find a better solution!

TIA

go with the pipe cutter it is the best way to cut evenly and smooth
just make sure you have another person holding the pipe while you cut
(i have one myself)

i never had good luck with the pipe cutter cuz it didnot cut straight and it bent the pipe. i use a table saw or a miter saw.

I use my band saw, or the power miter saw.
Band saw works better, and it's less prone to melt the plastic

Great ideas!

I also finally found this cutter, which I originally had in mind but couldn't find one large enough:

Empire 1/4 to 2-1/2 in. Pipe Cutter

It *might* be better than the bolt cutter like pipe cutter at Home Depot.

This tubing cutter probably will leave a ridge at the edges, but hopefully drifting will grind that out ;-)

I will try to get it tomorrow.

If you were going to use the pipe for the tires, why don't you just buy some drifting tires?

This is $8 to $8.50 for 3 complete sets (12 tires), with free shipping.

Cool, those eBay tires look great!! Wish I knew this earlier (always check eBay, duh!)

Anyway, I got the tubbing cutter at Sears for $23 (There is a $26 lesser quality version at Lowe's) and it worked awesome! Cuts are super smooth.

In the second set, if you read down, it shows how to remove, and install.
From the looks of it, you just press the wheel into the tire, and then run a bead of CA around it.

Drift Rings are expensive like $40 bucks for 4 of them.
Also drift tires will only work on smooth surfaces, such as hard wood floors, tile, smooth cement. But it's more expensive buying the drift tires for store.

I prefer abs, last a long time. You can use rough surfaces.

Thanks,

DAND

I just use a hand saw and cut a little bit more than an inch into the ppipe for each wheel, after that i fit the tire on my rim and sand down all the excess a power sander.

sorry to bring up an old thread but how do you mount the ABS/PVC plastic on to the wheels? Do you just simply slide them on?

I took advantage of my school's Design & Technology workshop equipment I managed to use a laythe. Which may be a bit extreme for such a minor task

i got that cutter from sears, works great.
i wrap a masking tape on my pipe, it serves as a guideline for cutting and at the same time protecting the surface. it needs a little bit of practice thou to cut it str8, i did it after the third set of tires
