What's the stock savage spur gear...how many teeth? stock cb/sg teeth?

What's the benefits of changing it higher or lower?

I'm having problems stripping my spur gear. I need to learn how to set it up properly.

Depends on the Savage. The original .21 Savage used a 52T spur and a 14T CB. All the .25s used a 49T with a 15T CB, but a 18T CB was optional. A 47T also came with the .25 Limited Edition version along with the standard 49T and it used a 15T CB or the optional 19T CB. All .28s used a 47T with a 17T CB.

Its a 49 tooth, just put a piece of note book paper between gears then push engine up tight and make sure its lined up then tighten it down. Pull the paper out and feel the tiny bit of play in the mesh, it has to be so small you can hardly feel it.

are you suppose to fold the paper in half or anything? to double it up?

and are you using actual notebook paper with lines?

No fold. I find slighter thicker printer paper works better than thinner notebook paper.

Once you get a feel for what kind of play is supposed to be between the gears, you'll find yourself setting the mesh without the paper.

Tell me if I'm understanding this correctly...put the piece of paper between the two gears and smash them together, tighten down the motor, and then pull the paper out and you should be good to go. They should be synced so that if you move the spur, it moves the clutch bell. But you should be able to move the spur ever so slightly without moving the clutchbell before they catch. is this right?

When taking the paper out it should not tear. When turning the spur you should not feel any bind and there should be just a small amount of gear lash.
