Drink two beer cans, cut one of, smack them together (maybe epoxy glue also). You now have a two chamber muffler. Drill entry and exit holes. Experiment with size of exit hole (about 1/4" to 1/2" start small) and hole in the middle wall (poke alu lip, close quite a lot, lip may fall off after extented use). I have not tried this but with the right size holes I guess it will be quite good and cheap and importantly lightweight. Could someone try this and report back about your findings.

Patrik, a good idea, I believe that Uffe used something similar last year in Norway after a warning for noise.
Precise as you are I am surprised that you describe using beer cans but illustrate with Coca Cola, can the theorist in you decide if this could have an effect on the eventual outcome of any tests?

Hmm,

I know the noise suppression theory you are advocating is a well tested and proven method, there are pipes out there doing it (In Europe). I like the photo's Patrik, some "product placement" to get the viewers thinking.

Where did the pick up coil go on that motor? etc etc etc. (I assume that's one of the reed valve test motors?)

Beer cans are a bit large, I have used the small WD40 spray cans and they work great, very quiet. Those small deoderant cans work good too. Best to build up a flange or insert a larger pipe for mounting.

I've made them from ( like Mike G said ) from WD-40 cans ( the smaller ones ) and fit a piece of copper tubing thru them ( remove the top area where the sprayer goes whilst leaving on the wrap ring , and drill a hole the same size as the copper tubing , on the bottem center , then drill a BUNCH of holes in the copper/brass tubing and angle them to ONE direction and leave about 1 1/2 inches on both sides sticking out from the WD can . Then use some JB weld and fix the copper/brass tubing to the can . But ,( almost forgot this part ) , BEFORE affixing the tubing to the can , get some CHORE GIRL - the brass ones , NOT the steel ones ) and kinda stuff it in between the can and the tubing , being sure NOT to overstuff , but to fill in nicely .
And wha-la .... instant muffler that WILL tone down those engines .

I tried one, works great. Lip-lid falls of, should drink it through a drilled 3/8" hole.

Also I made a new one tonight from energy drink cans. It now goes up un the converging cone and lengthens the pipe only an inch so I can get the pipe under the hatch if i want. Looks almost bought, I´ll post some pics l8er.

I made one using an 1 1/2"aluminum tube about 10" long with a 3/4"x1 1/2 " copper reducer fitting on one end and a flat cap I found. It has a 3/4" copper pipe through it with 1/8" holes drilled around the length that's inside the aluminum tube.I necked the 3/4" down to 1/2 to exit the transom and added a water exit as this system is water cooled.I tryed it non water cooled but it was louder. It did increase the performance of the 30cc modded Ryobi engine in my crackerbox.,over the cannister muffler.I got the instructions for it from a how to article on MGB on how to make a muffler.

A mighty fine installation Tidnab, we should all run silencers to save the environment.

Mart, I do not pack at all, do not want heavy or wet packing. I took one shot of the internals on the new one.
Hope to get to try it this week end. Notice the carbon fiber outlet, Racy! (and ony tubing I had )

Tried silicon this time (is it called that in English to?). Tommy tape or high temp epoxy are other potentials.

For silencers, bigger is quieter.
