what difference does a larger , in span, horizontal stab make?

for same area,

longer span means more bending loads at the center, must be stronger
higher aspect ratio means more lift per degree angle of attack
more roll resistance

THAT makes alot of sense, that mabey explains why the dauntless has a large
stab for lift in the dive?

A lot of the aircraft of that time from a few makers tended to have short fuselage lengths with larger stabs. Others had longer fuselages and smaller tails. It's all about the tail volume coefficient that is needed for stability. Short fuselage tail length needs larger stabilizer and vice versa.

Changing a Sea Dancer from a T-tail to a V-tail. What should be the v angle be set at and how much longer should each side be. I am also adding tip floats and flaps. garyverrier@yahoo.com Thanks Gary
