This is not a complaint nor a disappointment, just something I wanted to let you know in case it becomes repeated. I am flying the fusion .46 with Saito.72. (wonderful combo!) and started to notice some flexing of the right wing panel from the fuse. Tightening the wing bolt did not make any change so I stopped flying it to check out the problem. Turned out the wing tube (this is the wing that has the wing NUT on it, not the one on the side of the access hatch) had become unbonded from both the receiver box at the inner rib that the tube nests into and the root rib as well. I know one flight occurred in this state before I figured it out. Would be interesting to see what a 3D ornithopter flies like, might be a new market for you to research. Fix was of course easily done once I knew what it was. Anyway, its probably a one plane issue, but thought you would want to know just in case it recurred. Thanks for the wonderful bird.... only I can't figure what to do with my Edge 540 now.

Bob, thanks for the insight. Did the tube socket come loose?

Word of wisdom to folks: Always make sure your a/c are completely structurally sound before flying. For two-piece wing models such as the Fusions, the wing tube sockets should be securely glued to all ribs AND the shear webbing between the ribs. If you have play or broken joints then simply hit the joints with thin CA. You can use thick CA between the socket and shear webbing.

These planes are built light and 4-strokers do have more vibration than 2-bangers. If you had the wings coming loose then you might also want to wick some CA into the joints where the wing sheeting meets the root rib. Do this by dripping thin CA into the inside of the root ribs. Just check it all out before flying again.

Mike

When I removed the wing I first noted the spar tube was not bonded to the inboard most rib. I put a finger in it and it rotated which told me it was not bonded to either end. The tube just slid out the. I rebonded with epoxy just cause it was easier for me to get he epoxy in with the tools at hand. I agree with the vibration issue. I had not checked the ribs to the sheeting once I found the loose tube. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look at that. My impression is that the ribs were still solid as both myself and another flier who is a superb builder and bizarely good reconstructor of rubble looked pretty closely to determine the problem and neither of us saw any issue there. Still, it merits a look.

Thanks for such great stuff Mike. Good to have a company so straight forward with their stuff as you are. Good flow of info back and forth just continuously improves the breed.
