Hello fellow Pilots 

Let me introduce myself  Names Jimmy and I’m a full time student in Ottawa Ontario Canada and I’m studying accounting at a local college here in my city. I’ve just become interested in RC Helicopters, I found a video on youtube on one of Esky’s RC Heli’s and now I’ve come to the world or RC Helis . Pretty serious about it so I’m hoping the experts here or the more experienced then I am can help. ( Me zero experience so anyone who has flown a Heli is qualified to answer )

My question here is regarding the Belt-CP and the Honey Bee King II. I’ve already made an order for a Honey Bee King II (it’s coming in soon ^^) but I’m interested in either upgrading or getting a Belt-CP once I get better at flying. I’ve done my research but I still am unsure of what to expect from either one of these Helis. I’ve read numerous positive things about Esky’s Heli’s and negative ones as well. The reason why I’m so attracted to the two are the prices they seem very affordable in my budget.

Things to consider while helping me are: (Thanks a bunch guys ^^)

I’ve already purchased a (my current investment in RC Heli):

Esky’s Simulator
Honey Bee King II RTF $129USD
Honey Bee King Body Kit $58USD
Hyper-Lithium 11.1V 1500mah 12C Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Battery $23USD

All from RCHelicoptershop.com

Questions

- Poor student  us guys already looking for the best buy.

- You know with new electronic toys, you always want the newer better one so that’s probably why I’m doing this in the first place, Belt-CP = newer then Honey Bee King II does that make it better? Only major difference in the Belt-CP is the frame and brushless motor.

- Electronics are practically the same on both Helis however the Belt-CP has a totally different frame. Is the Frame of the Belt-CP better then the HBKII Frame? If so is there even much of a difference?

- Size make a difference at all? Does bigger mean better?

- If I was to upgrade the Honey Bee King II with new Gyro, ESC, Battery, Brushless Motor (scroll down to see upgrade consideration) would that upgrade outperform the Belt-CP’s stock Heli that comes in RTF? Considering that the Honey Bee King is smaller, lighter nearly half the size and weight of the Belt-CP. Adding a brushless motor that is nearly as powerful as the stock Belt-CP motor would assume that it would perform better on a smaller heli?

- I already own a Honey Bee King II body kit coming in along with my Honey Bee King II RTF. Building that from scratch with upgraded Gyro, ESC, Battery, Brushless Motor a better investment then purchasing RTF Belt-CP?

- I’m looking to finding a Heli that I can progress with over time that will perform very well for the price. Honey Bee King II with upgrades a better deal or the Belt-CP with Stock parts a better deal? (price and performance wise) 250$ HBKII Upgraded, Belt-CP 200$ Stock

- Which of the two are a better buy if you were to buy them alone? (no upgrades) Honey Bee King II or Belt-CP ( 70$ difference in price HBKII vs Belt-CP) only major difference is the Frame of the Belt-CP and the brushless motor included on the Belt-CP.

- Which is cheaper, Buying an RTF or Parts and building them yourself? ( example: HBKII RTF 129$ vs HBKII Body Kit 58$, Gyro 30$ , Battery 23$, 6Rec 30$, 6Trans 45$, servo 6$ total 192$???)

- What do you think of Esky’s Heli’s? I hear positive and negatives about them would love to hear what you have to say.

- Tips for a beginner and enthusiast

Oh yes one last question

Would you consider getting this upgrade. It’s a CNC upgrade for the Honey Bee King II and Belt-CP thanks

Well there you have it… my long list of questions and facts I’ve gathered to help assist you guys in my findings and understandings of RC Heli’s.

I just want to thank you guys in advance for helping out a trainee pilot. I’m looking to get good and sticking with this for a while. Maybe when I get my career going I’ll probably look into better helis but for now I’ll stick with the affordable.

Thanks guys

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

And welcome to the world of RC heliocopters.....at times you will love this hobby and at times you will hate it as well. I have 2 King 2's and a Flacon 3D. I love the king but for most RTF helio's they are not ready to fly right out of the box. Go and read this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5037490/tm.htm you will find a lot of good people and alot of your questions on the king will be answered. The Belt CP is a 450 size copter and the king 2 is a 300 size. The Belt CP is like a T-Rex but cost less...

Always remember to pre-flight the bird everytime you fly...and post-flight it everytime as well. That will save you alot of broken parts. Also check out the tune up thread for the king here in this forum...more great information. I would PM BetaPilot (Rusty) as he has helped all of us at one time or the other. He has built both of my Kings or customized (sp)
them to make them better. The stock motor will not hold up for long..so I would order a brushless motor and new esc when you can. When setup right the King flies as good as anyother helio...setup is the key. Check the two threads out and you will have most of your answers.

Eddie

Thanks for the worm welcome. Yhaa I've read a lot, I'm really serious about this from the start and I'm learning so much and I haven't even gotten my heli yet. I think thats the best part of this hobby.

Thanks for the advice

You might as well just go ahead and get a Brushless motor and ESC on order. Your stock motor will most likely not last too long.

I think the Decision between the Belt CP and HB King comes down to how much room you have to fly in. Backyard flying you should get a HBK. If you have access o to good size field, then the Belt CP would be better. The bigger the heli, the more stable and easier it will fly for you.

I mainly fly in my backyard, so I choose the HBK. If I had access to a larger field that I could walk across the street too, I would have gotten the Belt CP.

I do not think this decision is a matter of performance or value. Both helis are going to cost your about the same in the long run. Parts are prices the same. Replacement airframes are the same as well. Upgrades are also pretty much the same price as well. So it really comes down to a matter of... How much space are you typically going to be flying in?

Hope this helps

oh.. and you forgot to add in the cost of a Radio system for the Belt CP. It is typically not included.

Over here there's plenty of nice open places to fly, with nice scenery within walking distance or a bit of a drive down.

I guess the reason why I chose the HBKII to start with was because I heard that the Belt-CP was much harder to handle and that the HBKII was more suited for beginners.

Thanks a bunch for the info sparx

No CP heli is easy for a beginner. One thing that holds true though. The BIGGER the HELI, the MORE STABLE it is. So if you go on that premise, then the Belt CP would be better to learn on.

The reason most people IMHO do not start on Bigger Helis is a COST factor. Bigger helis are typically more expensive to repair after all the crashes you WILL have when learning. So people tend to start off on less expensive smaller helis. In this case though, cost does not really factor in.

I'll answer that question SPARX. HELI.COM advertises a RTF Belt CP but as i found out ( the hard way) is IS NOT RTF!. You get chopper, all servoe's installed,3800kv brushless motor, gyro, and blades. No radio comes with it! Good thing i already had a futaba 6exh radio and spare reciever. Oh,one more thing, you dont get any batteries or charger either.

Good Flying

rchelicoptershop.com - RTF - 200$

Be warned - they package their stuff strangely, or something, because both orders I've made from them took 3 days to clear customs. I've never had that issue before, even with Airsoft Guns and Asian Food/Candy.

Customs over here works in mysterious ways. I'll get dinged in customs all the time purchasing from various countries. It happens all the time, just the luck of the draw I guess.

btw how do you like your Belt-CP and HBK II

care to fill me in on what you like about the two and compare? would be great to have your input

Thanks

I actually really love my Esky Heli's. I was an Eflite fanboy for about a year where relatively inexpensive RTF's are concerned. I had a CP/CPP/CX/CX2 for about 4-5 months.

About a month ago, I came back to the forums (had been gone a while due to work and stuff) and I saw the stuff about the HBKII. I ordered one and about a week after I got it I sold off all of my Eflite stuff, lol. In my opinion, with the small exception of the stock motors in the HBK, it's a far superior product. The belt drive and seperate
