It's been a while since I was stationed in Germany, but there was always good hobbyshops in towns the size of Baumholder. Have you tried to get to the marktplatz to look for any? Asking any German may help too. Models and building were always popular there.

no havent really drove around too much but I am getting to that point. I am not really sure exactly what to ask a german to get me to the right place. Thanks

Hi,

Are you in Europe or in USA ? If you are in Europe, then you have the choices below:

The cheapest choice is (what I am doing):
Methanol: - Visit the nearest factory where they make washing liquids and there Methanol is
quite for sure 1 euro per liter or less.
Castor Oil: - Check www.lindinger.at

Then the fuel 20% Castor and 80% Methanol is going to give you quite for sure best
Performance/Price ratio and longest life of your engines. Use warm glow plugs anyway
to settle with the idle.

Also Lindinger is the best price in Europe for almost any thing in RC.

The next best is www.der-schweighofer.at

and in those two shops all kind of fuel and fuel making components are available.

One thing more:
If you get the Methanol at low price then you can in fact get the Castor oil from the nearest Farmacy at price of about 10 Euro per liter.
Such castor is in fact too good, you can even drink that, but better do not do that, ... neither at home or at the airfiled... In Farmacy
they will get very excited why one is buying so much Castor oil(Ricini oil) and you tell them the exact reason and show the engine
manual to not make their imagination going wild. If you buy canisters of 5 liters Castor(Ricini) then the price might be even lower
than the price you get from Lindinger.

OK after all the searching I found one about 12 miles from me.....Here is the address just in case anyone else has this problem.......Hobbystore 8 Bahnhof str 55743 Idar-Oberstein Also there is one in Mainz I used to use it is called Conrads it is by the train station Thanks for all the help guys

I never priced glow fuel there. You may find fuel with nitro expensive. You didn't say what engines you have, so I don't know if 5% would be okay with them. Good luck. I loved the hobbyshops in Germany.

I finally found a really nice hobby shop in Neunkirchen. The hobby shop is called Lismann and if anyone else is looking for this place pm me and I will be happy to give you directions. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

blw -> RE: Where to buy fuel? (10/14/2007 4:52:22 AM)

I never liked the APO mail system when I was overseas, but maybe they have improved. I wouldn't count on fuel getting past all the places in country to make it where you are, but I would try once at least. Good luck.

wcmorrison -> RE: Where to buy fuel? (10/14/2007 2:47:46 PM)

A lot a mail goes by air, not wise to even try to ship flammables by air. Remember the oxygen canisters in the Florida crash. Its just to dangerous to us the USPS or APO/FPO. Like was said, try the medics, they may have what you need.

Cheers,

Chip

Wow execent info for alternitive sources for methonal and Castor oil that should work in most all of europe as now I no longer live in germany where model shops LHS were very abundant compared to lots of the rest of europe

Conrads is realy a eletronic wholesale company but will sell RC glow fuels from memory and exist in most all europe but cant recall thier prices for fuel being very competitive or the selection being very large supect from memory was synthetic oil

thanks

I am off to find the nearest washing up liquid manufactuer to see if they will sell me methanol EL PRONTO

Any other good ideas like that for example do timber manufatuers or similar sell suitable fuels like methanol or etanol to joe soap public

Apperantly its rumoured in Europe even getting super cheap kerosene J1 for turbines is getting difficult from many airports as airports tighten up sales outlet sources and get middle men in betweeen to sell fuel to us at massivly hiked up prices usualy quoting security issues Mantra for this price hike SOB

For people in armiies I would suspect that medical sections would be swimmming in methanol and castor oils and etanol even

Also they would probably have access to ethanol which is dificuct to get in civvy street as its the real alcohol
RC glow motors are reputed to run well on this from other threads in this forum but it can often be more expensive than methanol if its for sale on civvy street

Also according to other threads spread throught this forum USA formula E85 gasoline Fuel which is 85% ethanol and 25% gasoline has been used in expermantal use with other modelers and seems in some cases to work well with RC glow motors
I suspect adding more ethanol to E85 even if its denatured ethanol which is typicaly 95% ethanaol and 5% methanol to E85 to bring it up to 95% etanol 5% gasoline ( just add suitable castor )should mean most all RC model motors will run) or even adding more methanol to E85 to bring gasoline content down to 5% could make it work more easier than high gasoline contents

Appearantly the glow plugs will ignite most any type of fuels of a cabon type like methanol ethanol and gasoline but you may need to change the glow to suit the differnt fuels often they caim with hotter plus or with OS F they say being the suitable types for gasoline mixed fuels

If you go online and look at the fuel mixxes from 1960s era they used a far greater range of fuels than we use today with etanol and methanol mixxes with gasoline contents as well but for pratical reasons the present fuel mixxes have proved sturdy for international use and making life more easy for the novice in terms of glow plug and lubrication oils problems

I also need to reasearch this fuel issue further as my next location to be sent to live and work might be Zambia,Malawi, Botwanna ,or mozaambique or similar in southern Africa and LHS are sopposedly non existant except in South Africa but at least its good flying wheater compared to northern europe

Thats what you get for your sins and annoying the boss but could be worse might get sent to UK and that would be even more awful sooner Africa
