The best way to improve range is a patch anntena on the reciever you can get one from range video for 46.00 I went with the 8dBi cause it has better coverage for moving objects http://rangevideo.com/index.php main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=15and
I think you camera is @ 2.4Ghz Not 1.2Ghz so that anntena should work fine or this on from future hobbies would work
https://www.futurehobbies.com/items_detail.asp?id=16&item=79
but make sure your @ 2.4GHZ I looked @ that camera and I saw 2.4Ghz so just check or nether will work

Ok so I see your goods there. Have you tested this camera yet on a moving platform? (car/plane) What was your results? Staticy perhaps? Is this why you are asking about range? Well first of all that tiny whip antenna on your camera may not satisfy you in terms of distance you seek. We use a KX131 or a KX151 Sony CCD camera, then we connect it to a separate A/V transmitter (Lawmate or Airwave modual based) where we screw on a 3db or a 5 db rubber ducky antenna. Then the receiver we screw on a 5db or 9db omni directional (rubber ducky) antenna or a 8db or a 14 db square patch antenna for serious range. Got around 3000 meter easy with no video loss on my 14db patch!

I've used that set up like yours before and was not happy with the results. So I switched to what most have been using like anything from Bill @ Black Widow or Renovolva @ Range Video or Wade @ Future Hobbies and let's not forget Wilson @ Hobby Wireless. The good thing is that you didn't spend too much on your gear unlike me when those stuff were still high 2 to 3 years ago.

I agree I used that set up for 3 flights and them went to a wireless garden super cantana wifi anntena witch worked alot better now I usae a setup from future with a 8dBi patch and a 200mw TX with a 420TL camera
the easyist way to get range with that is a simple patch anntenea its about all you can do with it

8db patch is a great choice for medium range sine the reception range is a lot wider than a 14db. I use both but need that second person with the 14db because of the narrow beam, constantly aiming the antenna at the plane when flying long range.

Try these guys for your antenna blues http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/antennas_1200.php

moogly, I'm looking into a really neat toy! It's not a new thing but it is however in development stage for our purpose. It's a tracking device that will accept any receiver (with any antenna), 900mhz, 1.2 what ever you throw at it. Anyhow what it will do is track the TX signal and follow your plane so no more broken signal, just fly and the A/V signal tracker will spin and follow the signal for you! I'll keep you guys posted on any news or release date!

Those won't you need anntena at your Hz (1.2Ghz) so try hyperlink http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/antennas_1200.php search around 1.2Ghz seems odd Most setups are @ 900mz or 2.4Ghz
good luck

That sound great I was just thinking about it the other night how they use to make tripod heads that would move the camera head and track you by IR.
and I thought why not do something like that for planes (They beat me to it) Great! sounds Cool if the cost is reasnable

Improving the range of video transmission has been covered in much detail in another older thread on this forum. Look for Steve Molmer's Thread "The prefect aerial photography platform". IMHO Steve is the most technically knowledgeable person frequenting this board. You will find that there are many subtle facets of this game right down to creating a ground plane for the receiving antenna that can add improvements. Antenna's must be exactly matched in design for a transmitter or receiver of any given frequency. Also there are many other sources of interference that are not related to the RF side of the equation. You will find that these guys who have done this a long time will tell you that it is virtually impossible to get 100% glitch free streaming video from any of these systems. If you haven't already, take some time and read through some of these older threads. They cover many of the questions currently being posted. Here is the url to his thread.

Steve travels alot but has been very helpful answering my earlier questions when he is available.

Good Luck!

Bill

Very true about Steve Molner, he's got to be the most knowledgeable person in regards to this. He's amazing! 15 miles reception! I float around in three other forums and he's number one in this department! Anyhow back to the audio/video signal tracer, it should be fairly cheap and is powered by a 2 cell lipo and is spinned by a Hitec metal gear servo with a low voltage warning alarm. Beta testing will come soon so hopefully I might be a lucky guy

If you want more range, throw away that cheap sub-standard equipment and get some good quality stuff. You are just wasting your time with that cheap equipment, you will go to a lot of effort to increase the range and it will never work well.

Buy a good 1000 mw 2.4 ghz system with a patch antenna at www.rangevideo.com It is not to expensive, works better with less fooling around, and will go much further, with a better quality picture.

Agree, I wasted too many time with those systems without any decent result.
