Dear Fellow Pilots

I'm thinking of upgrading my RTF Honey Bee King II ( if I don't get a Belt-CP instead )
but I'm not sure what the best upgrades will be.

So I'm hoping the more experienced pilots can help me out
or the ones who know a lot more then I do lol.. ( I don't know much
so any help will do )

alright so here are some of the upgrades I plan on upgrading
with Esky upgrades

- EK2-0704A Head Lock Gryo for Honey Bee King II, Belt CP
- EK5-0005 Brushless Motor Outrunner 3900KV For Hony Bee King II
- EK1-0350 Electric Speed Controller For Brushless Motor (25A)
- Hyper-Lithium 11.1V 2200mAh 16C Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Battery
- EK1-0353 Brushless Motor Gear

all for 122$

You guys think these are great parts for the $$$
or do you guys recommend a better investment?

Thanks a bunch for your input

Jimmy

You may wish to consider the EK1-0352 ( 10 tooth gear) to go with your EK1-0353 ( 11 tooth gear). I am running the Esky 3900 with a 10 tooth gear in a HBK now and like the combo. People in the know say the Esky 3800 motor produces more power, by the way. Unless the lipo is some engineering marvel that weighs little more than a 1200mah lipo, I would not go that big in the lipo department. Everything looks good with the exception of the lipo. ( in my opinion).. Tom

I'm thinking of going with the ones that come in the package..... is there a difference though with the pinion?

thanks for replying

I'm not sure I thought you could only use one gear with a specific motor. I'm not to well educated on the gears but if you could fill me in on why that'd be great.

I know that the Belt-CP uses the 3800kb motor instead of the 3900kb motor thats in the package. I've checked the stats on various places and seems that the 3800kb motor is more powerful and is a standard on the belt-cp.

Can you tell me a bit more about the battery. The Battery is too powerful? Too Big in size?I thought more power means better performance?

Anyways thanks a lot for replying. Really apperciate it

One more thing I heard that the 3800kb motor you have to modify the frame of your HBKII before you can use it. Not to familiar with modification so the reason why I'm going for 3900 bless motor is because of ease of intsalling the motor

The 3800Kv is a larger motor for bigger heli's than the HBK2, like the Belt CP (400 class I believe). The 3900Kv has a lot of speed. I run this with a 9T pinion. I think its too much headspeed even with the 9T pinion IMO. I'm going to try the Pulso Danlion 3500Kv motor next I got from Betapilot.

I just purchased the upgrades without the LiPo just the Gyro, ESC, and Brushless motor I got a 10T

I hope a 10T is right for it? I have no idea what pinions are but I went with tbaus's recommendation

You can change pinion gears to get different headspeeds. It is possible to put too large a pinion gear ( too many teeth) and get your headspeed up around 3000 rpm or over, which in my opinion, is getting too high for plastic head parts, and wooden blades no matter what heli it is on. We kind of play with different pinion gears to get different head speeds and see if it the heli flies as we think it should. It is always good to go with what others have tried and what worked for them. An 11 tooth gear may make the rotor spin at too high an RPM, an 10 tooth will spin it yet slower and a 9 tooth yet again slower. It takes experimentation.
As I said, I am flying an Esky 3900 with a 10 tooth pinion in my day to day HBK. I like it. It is not too overly radical, but has a lot more power than the stock motor. In my opinion, an Esky 3900, mated with a 10 tooth pinion and a 1250 12C battery is a great little combo. Eveedub is running his 3900 ( I assume Esky) with a 9 tooth gear. ( My second HBKV2 with and entirely different motor ( Hacker E3-37 (3700)) seems to spin up to higher rpms with only an 8 tooth pinion gear.) I would hate to see that setup with a 10 tooth gear.
As far as batteries, when you get above about 1400 mah batteries, you start getting into pretty heavy a load for this size heli. I have heard other say they try to limit the battery weight to around 90 grams or so. When you get too heavy, you start off-setting the gains you get with motor upgrades. I fly with the 1000mah stock batteries and Dynam 1250mah batteries. I like the Dynam's a lot better than the Eskys. I just bought another brand 1300mah battery but it is a bit too wide for the battery box. It has to fit in the battery area as well. The "C" rating (10C,12C,15C, 20C,...) is kinda like how big the pipe is for the current to flow through. I am flying with 10C, and 12C with 15C burst capability, but I don't do anything real radical either
If you are not yet flying the HBKV2 then I do not understand why you would want to upgrade the gyro to a HH gyro, unless you get a break on the shipping or something like that, and know you will be upgrading to the HH gyro at some point in the future. I am not any great expert or anything, but I am flying my two HBK's ( one pretty heavily modified by betapilot) with the standard rate gyro. Now again, I am not doing any 3D flight. I would recommend you try the heli with the stock rate gyro before making any changes.
Read everything you can read about these helis. Peruse the threads on this board and other boards. You will get opinions across the board. Some people have to have the latest and greatest thing regardless of the price. Others love to experiment and change things around. Others want the heli set up and concentrate on extreme flight envelopes. As you can guess, there are many other types. I would recommend you kinda' figure out which type of flyer you are speaking with and then factor that into your equation of decision making.
I hope I helped a bit...
Tom

thanks for the long post.. learning lots, info is really helping me out

I'm not planing on using the upgrading just yet. I'm trying to figure out what my best options are for later when I get better.
I plan on using the simulator at first for a while until I get the hang of things, then once I passed that I can start trying to lift off and land with the HBKII using stock parts.

Eventually once I get good enough using the stock parts, I plan on upgrading.....

I guess you can say I'm a bit eager to do everything at once, I'm that type of guy that wants things right away but I know that I have to wait. I have coming along with my RTF HBKII is an HBKII Body Kit. I just wanted to build my upgraded HBKII at the same time I learn how to fly the stock. Once I'm ready to touch that I'll get to it
but until then I'll work my way up there. ( on the other hand if I crash then I'll just use the body kit for spare parts and save the upgrades for later )

that was a nice read though, much appreciated once again tbaus

Well all I can say is the King II is a great choice. If you have the money one of the best investments for this bird would be the motor and ESC upgrade. The 3900 motor is great but the 3800 is much better. If you do go with the 3800 you will have to shave the bird a bit to fit the motor. You then have the option of going with the 9 or 10 pinion. In regards to batteries, the space is very limited inside this bird so be careful the size you get. One great option is to pick yourself up a COOL canopy and that will give you the extra room inside as it is slightly wider and longer. Tons of great info can be found on this site and also at
