You can change pinion gears to get different headspeeds. It is possible to put too large a pinion gear ( too many teeth) and get your headspeed up around 3000 rpm or over, which in my opinion, is getting too high for plastic head parts, and wooden blades no matter what heli it is on. We kind of play with different pinion gears to get different head speeds and see if it the heli flies as we think it should. It is always good to go with what others have tried and what worked for them. An 11 tooth gear may make the rotor spin at too high an RPM, an 10 tooth will spin it yet slower and a 9 tooth yet again slower. It takes experimentation. As I said, I am flying an Esky 3900 with a 10 tooth pinion in my day to day HBK. I like it. It is not too overly radical, but has a lot more power than the stock motor. In my opinion, an Esky 3900, mated with a 10 tooth pinion and a 1250 12C battery is a great little combo. Eveedub is running his 3900 ( I assume Esky) with a 9 tooth gear. ( My second HBKV2 with and entirely different motor ( Hacker E3-37 (3700)) seems to spin up to higher rpms with only an 8 tooth pinion gear.) I would hate to see that setup with a 10 tooth gear. As far as batteries, when you get above about 1400 mah batteries, you start getting into pretty heavy a load for this size heli. I have heard other say they try to limit the battery weight to around 90 grams or so. When you get too heavy, you start off-setting the gains you get with motor upgrades. I fly with the 1000mah stock batteries and Dynam 1250mah batteries. I like the Dynam's a lot better than the Eskys. I just bought another brand 1300mah battery but it is a bit too wide for the battery box. It has to fit in the battery area as well. The "C" rating (10C,12C,15C, 20C,...) is kinda like how big the pipe is for the current to flow through. I am flying with 10C, and 12C with 15C burst capability, but I don't do anything real radical either If you are not yet flying the HBKV2 then I do not understand why you would want to upgrade the gyro to a HH gyro, unless you get a break on the shipping or something like that, and know you will be upgrading to the HH gyro at some point in the future. I am not any great expert or anything, but I am flying my two HBK's ( one pretty heavily modified by betapilot) with the standard rate gyro. Now again, I am not doing any 3D flight. I would recommend you try the heli with the stock rate gyro before making any changes. Read everything you can read about these helis. Peruse the threads on this board and other boards. You will get opinions across the board. Some people have to have the latest and greatest thing regardless of the price. Others love to experiment and change things around. Others want the heli set up and concentrate on extreme flight envelopes. As you can guess, there are many other types. I would recommend you kinda' figure out which type of flyer you are speaking with and then factor that into your equation of decision making. I hope I helped a bit... Tom
