I wanted to know if anyone could help me..
I recently purchased 2 FEDA DRAGONFLY Helicopters from a company in China. I have tried to fly them for many Hours, but it has been impossible, they are not stable, I lift them off teh ground about 1 metre, and they start to moove all over the place..
when the battery is fully charged, the servos are too sensitive, and other problems.. Since I bought these Helicopters, I have been offered them at cheaper prices from different people, including Singapor Hobby supplies, etc..
I have also seen them advertised at ebay, etc.. Does anyone think that they are a product that has been made that doesn't work, and someone is trying to get rid of it.. maybe a copy of the HummingBird from Century..
From fotos I have seen that there are slight differences from the FEDA to the CENTURY Helicopter, there are more electronic components, and also there are 2 rod's that run along side the tail rotor arm..
PLEASE SOMEONE POST WHAT THEY KNOW, SO THAT I CAN TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON.. or e-mail me at
MINIXRACERS at terra.es

Thanks

It's the other way around, the Hummingbird from Century is just the Feda re-badged (in some of the Century photos you can still see the word "Feda" on the heli!!).

As for flying it. How are you doing in the simulator that you use? Piccofly from Ikarus would probably be a good choice as the Feda will fly very like that. Failing that get FMS or PreFlight for free. After 50-100 hours in the simulator you should find that flying the actual helicopter is not that much harder.

I have one as well.... purchased from China. I haven't gotten off the ground yet.. but, that's my problem. I have lifted off about 3 inches.... but panic.

I have seen that the Dragonfly from Hong Kong, and the Century are vertually identical, with the same part numbers. I did notice the two stabilizer rods on the tail boom, and the wing. Now.

Stability. I'm new to this too. However, I know the gyro can be critical to stable flight. Do you have a gyro? I bought the GWS. Maybe you have to increase the sensitivity a bit? Make sure the gyro is set up properly too...

Have you balenced the FEDA too? Maybe that is an issue? Are the blades and fly paddles balanced?

I've heard that the Hummingbird/Dragonfly choppers are more stable than the other one offered on ebay.

Check out this:

http://www.helihobby.com/html/hummingbird_helicopter.html

They have amazing parts upgrades available. Maybe something there will help.

Or, Century's web site. They have an amazing manual set up on the Century Hummingbird.

Hope this helps...

I want to inport them for Spain (the country I live in) I normally deal with Airplanes, Helicopters is a first for me..
Could you tell me how I have to center the Rotor, etc..
I can get the Heli. off the ground, and flying for about 5 seconds, but it starts mooving all of a sudden, it goes off to the right, or to the left, etc.. so I have to bring it down right away..
Also I notice that the servos are alot more sensible with the battery fully charged than when it is nearly finished..

Please help.

Kind Regards,

Lindsay.

To balence the heli.... you have to first hang it by the rotor, with string, or, just hold it carefully by the flybar paddles, close to the shaft. See if it hangs to one side, or the other, front or back. Front back can be balenced by sliding the battery along the rails.

Side to side, you may need to move the gyro to alternate locations (one is stuck to the front motor).

The rotors can have tracking problems (one higher than the other in flight (check by slow speed, putting tape on one blade to see if one goes higher than the other in motion. You can heat them up, and bend them accordingly).

The blades should also be able to centre themselves. That means, the screws should be snug, but not too tight. The blades should be able to swing when the rotors reach a good speed.

ALSO. Make sure the servos are all set up right. According to the manuals, (century has the best) you should make sure the swash plate is totally parallel to the rotors at rest. All the way arround.

Also, make minor corrections in stick.

I found that, spinning up the throttle to less than half, and watching the movements of the controls, and rotors was helpful.

I noticed, if the blades were not totally 'happy', i'd get violent shaking.... so, I'd stop, and make sure they were not out of whack.

I don't think you can really ballence the blades as such.

Read Century Heli's manual ... it's very very descriptive.

Hope that helps.

A micro heli is inherently unstable. If you expect to lift it off the ground and hover in one spot, you will be surprised. It's kind of like trying to stand on a ball. Get some training gear and slide it around on a smooth floor for about 10 or 20 charges. Then when you lift it off and it starts moving one way or the other, you will know how to get it back.

With these micro helis you have to be active on the sticks at all times. I have a piccolo, and the breakthrough for me came when I realized that no matter how much balancing and trimming I did, this thing was going to move around, so I was going to have to actively control it at all times. Definitely get training gear, and definitely use a simulator. I thought the freebie FMS was VERY helpful, because it was EASIER to fly. It allowed me to get a good feel of what movement resulted from my stick handling, and helped me develop the coordination of pitch, roll, lift, and yaw to make the heli go where I wanted it to. If the feda is anything like my pic, you will find that flying it will require almost constant small corrections. It also helped me to paint the ends of the blades white so I could more easily see them and make those little corrections to level the blade path before it went too far in any one direction. It takes a lot of concentration and light stick handling, but boy is it fun when you make it work.
