Warbirds are popular sport (and serious) racing planes. Groups all over the nation have classes based on warbirds or Reno Unlimited racers.

I'm starting this thread so people can show off their warbirds. ARF or scratch built ... Let's see 'em.

DonStegall -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (8/13/2007 9:55:24 AM)

My original plan for pylon promotion in the Southeast was to take Club 40 planes, RCPRO Warbird planes, AND AMA 424 planes to the demos. The growth of Club 40 and my son's now heavy involvement in R/C kept me from getting into the RCPRO Warbirds.

I finally got a TWM (The World Models) Dago Red P-51 together. I used a YS .63 FZs because supercharged (or semi-supercharged) 4 strokes are cool.

This was my first YS engine, and my first plane with retracts. We flew it at my field today and it had an eventful day. But it made it through and so did we in the 100 degree sun and here are a couple of AFTER photos.

Pheonix Strega/YS 110. We now have six races a year in a southwest regional series: Speedworld (Phoenix) AZ, Kingman RC Flyers Kingman Az, and Victor Valley Flyers Victorville Ca. Complete with a year end championship flyoff.

The Strega has proven very successfull for the various classes and here in Kingman there are at least 22 flying with more on the way. Of course not a required type but just a very effective airplane under the RC Pro rules. Kingman at times looks like a giant pumpkin patch[:D]

And just when we thought it was safe again to race in Gold.

I know what is lurking inside that cowl. They don’t call it Mondo Motor for nothing.

Tony Pacini -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (9/29/2007 1:41:55 AM)

That's just a ferry motor for now. If if the airframe doesn't shed tail feathers on the test flights then we'll put something more fitting under the hood. The mad scientist has the next-generation motor ready for testing. [:D]

Tony Pacini -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (10/5/2007 3:10:49 AM)

After shedding a spinner during the first runup (breaking the engine mount and wiping out 3 servos), then having the needle vibrate out on the first flight (ripping the gear out on landing and breaking the mount again), the 'Bear finally has two flights under her belt without shedding any parts. She is showing potential even on the base engine. It flies much like a supersonic oil drum. [;)]

It's time to swap the ferry engine for something that can swing another 2 inches of diameter at another 1,000 rpm. The mad scientist has flight-tested the new engine but says it isn't yet ready for the XXX potion. He said something about the ring having to seat before trying to melt it out of the engine. [:D]

Flight testing of the new engine in the 'Bear is scheduled for the weekend before the race. Test results will be kept classified until race day.

That's the coolest Cub I've ever seen!

double your trouble [:)]

YS under the hood [:D]

Tony Pacini -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (2/22/2008 9:57:35 PM)

Does anyone suppose that THIS would be legal for warbird racing? [:D]

still4given -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (3/5/2008 5:43:22 PM)

I'm a Strega convert.

Bronze with a TT46/ultra thrust muffler
Silver with a Jett JS-50
Gold with a YS 110

T34RACING -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (3/5/2008 11:16:27 PM)

Hey Tony.

Mongo here....

Do the Series of races you guys are running in Arizona and Southern California allow T-34 and Cubs to race? I know Sacramento doesnt allow airplanes that were not fighters or non-unlimited racers. The race series we have in the Bay area allows everything but it has to be a certain size.

I have a couple WOrld Models PT-26's in them, but I think the powerplants are to big. I am running O.S. 91DF engines in them.

I would like to try to make your July race at the Basin......can some one send me a flyer?

Email is T34RACING@YAHOO.COM

Tony Pacini -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (3/6/2008 1:54:07 AM)

Kevin,

The RCPRO rules that we're using allow Cubs and trainers. I'm not sure what rules will be used at the Basin race.

still4given -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/7/2008 1:33:26 AM)

My latest offerings.

T-34/YS 1.10 for Silver
BH Spitfire/YS45 for Bronze

Tommy_Gun -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/11/2008 6:51:02 AM)

Here is my YS 1.10 powered KMP Critical Mass.

Billy -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/14/2008 11:10:21 PM)

How fast would you say that KMP CM is with the YS 110?

Tommy_Gun -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/15/2008 3:57:32 AM)

It is too fast for Bronze but not quite fast enough for Gold.

That's why I race it in Silver. I'm not sure how fast it shows on a clock. I'm going to guess it tops out in a straight line at about 120 maybe a little faster.

In this race I was only using 20/20 fuel and a 15/10 APC prop.

Here is a video of the plane in a Silver race. I actually won this race with a time real close to 2 minutes as everyone else broke out.

still4given -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/15/2008 3:33:39 PM)

Hey Tommy, cool video!

I've never tried a 15x10. Everyone I know, including me, runs a 13x10. Some guys are running a 13x11 on high nitro. I didn't care for the 13x11. I seemed too slow out of the turns. That Sea Fury has a real nice silhouette in the turns.

Thanks for sharing that.

Blessings, Terry

Tommy_Gun -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/15/2008 6:14:56 PM)

Hey Terry,
Glad you enjoyed that.
The 15x10 works well due to the cowl cross section being a larger diameter as compared to pointy nosed racers.
I have used 30% in a couple races and it does help with letting me have a little more speed to play with for adjusting my line during a race.

Tommy_Gun -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (7/21/2008 2:36:14 AM)

Went out and tested my YS 1.10 powered KMP Critical Mass against Tims YS .91AC powered plane of same type.
Seems we are really evenly matched. I stretched my wings a little to make the wing area requirements and he was able to leave his stock.
I also tested a parabolic spinner from my Skyshark 109G that mated real nice with the front of the cowl. Those pictures are near the end of this group.

Jimmy Skids -> RE: Warbird Photo Gallery (8/12/2008 10:27:18 PM)

Tommy,
When your ready to push the CM to the limit let me know and I'll mix up some fire water for it...... but be warned, it could never catch the Skidfire.
