Warbirds are popular sport (and serious) racing planes. Groups all over the nation have classes based on warbirds or Reno Unlimited racers.

I'm starting this thread so people can show off their warbirds. ARF or scratch built ... Let's see 'em.

My original plan for pylon promotion in the Southeast was to take Club 40 planes, RCPRO Warbird planes, AND AMA 424 planes to the demos. The growth of Club 40 and my son's now heavy involvement in R/C kept me from getting into the RCPRO Warbirds.

I finally got a TWM (The World Models) Dago Red P-51 together. I used a YS .63 FZs because supercharged (or semi-supercharged) 4 strokes are cool.

This was my first YS engine, and my first plane with retracts. We flew it at my field today and it had an eventful day. But it made it through and so did we in the 100 degree sun and here are a couple of AFTER photos.

Pheonix Strega/YS 110. We now have six races a year in a southwest regional series: Speedworld (Phoenix) AZ, Kingman RC Flyers Kingman Az, and Victor Valley Flyers Victorville Ca. Complete with a year end championship flyoff.

The Strega has proven very successfull for the various classes and here in Kingman there are at least 22 flying with more on the way. Of course not a required type but just a very effective airplane under the RC Pro rules. Kingman at times looks like a giant pumpkin patch

And just when we thought it was safe again to race in Gold.

I know what is lurking inside that cowl. They don’t call it Mondo Motor for nothing.

That's just a ferry motor for now. If if the airframe doesn't shed tail feathers on the test flights then we'll put something more fitting under the hood. The mad scientist has the next-generation motor ready for testing.

After shedding a spinner during the first runup (breaking the engine mount and wiping out 3 servos), then having the needle vibrate out on the first flight (ripping the gear out on landing and breaking the mount again), the 'Bear finally has two flights under her belt without shedding any parts. She is showing potential even on the base engine. It flies much like a supersonic oil drum.

It's time to swap the ferry engine for something that can swing another 2 inches of diameter at another 1,000 rpm. The mad scientist has flight-tested the new engine but says it isn't yet ready for the XXX potion. He said something about the ring having to seat before trying to melt it out of the engine.

Flight testing of the new engine in the 'Bear is scheduled for the weekend before the race. Test results will be kept classified until race day.

Hey Tony.

Mongo here....

Do the Series of races you guys are running in Arizona and Southern California allow T-34 and Cubs to race? I know Sacramento doesnt allow airplanes that were not fighters or non-unlimited racers. The race series we have in the Bay area allows everything but it has to be a certain size.

I have a couple WOrld Models PT-26's in them, but I think the powerplants are to big. I am running O.S. 91DF engines in them.

I would like to try to make your July race at the Basin......can some one send me a flyer?

Email is T34RACING@YAHOO.COM

Kevin,

The RCPRO rules that we're using allow Cubs and trainers. I'm not sure what rules will be used at the Basin race.
