Spacey,

Thanks for the great response! I also thought about the bolt and figured I'd put a rubber washer between bolt & engine as well as between the engine and fuse, thus isolating it from any hard connection. Where can I find a discussion about this? Would I search for "soft mount" AND "profile"?

It sounds like I won't go wrong with either plane. I do want to learn 3D (can only do it on the sim) and I like the look of the Yak.

When you say use a "light prop", do you mean literally light weight? Would that mean a smaller diameter prop, a flatter "W" prop, wood/CF prop, or what? This is my first profile plane and construction up-front seems to be a little unique.

Thanks,

Alan

Alan, the lighter wood props are becoming more popular for 3d over the heavier APC props because they spool up quicker and give better throttle response. APC props are still great and really hold their airfoil shape very well. I use a mixture of both style props.

There are soft mounts available for profiles and you can make a home-made soft mount "system" that totally isolates any hard mounting.( direct contact of engine/bolts/rails). However, a 4 stroke on a light plane such as the Fusion with a soft mount can actually cause more engine travel and shake even worse. My Fusion shakes a bit with a 1.20 2 stroke but its strong enough to take it , so far.(about 50 flights)

My canopy area has been breaking just from setting the plane upside down to install the wings for flying. After cutting the covering away & taking a look, I decided to beef the area up & make a "handle" for hand launching, should be fun to hover from launch. Sorry Spacey, I couldnt forget your vid. I used CF tape, gussets in the corners & extra layers of 1/8 balsa sheet, next is a couple CF tubes as trusses and a CF tube for a handle, very little weight but strong. Hopefully a vid of the hand launch soon.

Got the Boxxer in the air. Saito .82 gives plenty of power. The build was uneventful. Likes: light, easy build, good looks, flys very nice. Dislikes: the holes for the tank is in too thin an area, pull the zip ties snug and the rear holes elongate and tear. Tank seam leaks, instructions are on CD requiring you print it or keep your lap top handy though admiditly this is an easy build, throttle servo cutout is for standard servo. All in all the plane is a descent bird for the buck. It flys slow and does what ever you can do, it does torque roll on it's on and requires right imput to keep it from rotating, or just let is spin on it's axis and plan on it. Now to begin the Fusion with YS110 project.

Just maiden my 52 " Fusion . First flight was just for trimming 5 click down 2 left aileron, then one smooth landing. Second flight 1): length of field knife edges both canopy side then gear side. First 4 points rolls, first vertical figure 8s etc, etc. I did not know I was a good flyer until the fusion. Have the OS 55ax in the bird and fly more pattern than 3d.
Thanks OMP

I am curious what prop do you have on the 55? My buddy has a Fusion with a 50 and just put one back together with a 55. We don't know what prop to try on the 55. The 50 likes a 12.75x3.75APC. I just don't know if it will load the 55 enough.

BTW the 52" fusion was my favorite plane until I got the 67". It may be hard for you to believe but the 67" is twice the flier.

Using a 13-5 right now on the Fusion. Had the 55 on a 4*-40 with a 13-7 at seven pounds that plane had ulimited vertical.

I have the 52" Fusion with a Saito 82a - it's actually me second Fusion, I put the first one into the top of a hill (my depth perseption must have been off that day ) Anyway I only had 4 flight on it and I was still dialing it in. Everything is back on my new 52" Fusion now and I've been able to avoid that hill so far ... maidened it yesterday.

But, I'm wondering what prop is best for the 52" Fusion with the Saito 82a. I'm currently using a 14-4, but I have a couple of 15-4's in my flight box. Better set-up? Any issues with ground clearance? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I would think a 15X4 might be a little big. Thats more like a prop for a 91 four stroke or even a saito 100.

I like the 15x4 Pro Zinger on my 82 with 30% nitro. The APC 15x4W is OK on 30% but the spool up is slower. If your running 15 or 20% then stick with the 14x4W.

THANKS! Sticking with the 14-4, for now. I might still give the 15-4 a try once I've got a few flights under my belt ... we'll see. Really appreciate the information.
