Status: offline 		You could put a set screw in the wing tube. Epoxy a small piece of thin ply on the portion of the wing tube you can see through the hatch. With the wings bolted on drill a small hole through the ply and one part of the tube. Then pull it apart and tapp the hole in the wing tube. Other than that you need to put a hole in the wing. It may be a good idea anyway. If there is going to be a piece of balsa banging around in the wing all the time. I would put a hole in it and fix it right. If not you will find small pieces of balsa start showing up between the covering and the wood.

Status: offline 		The piece of balsa feel out through the ribs. I just finished covering the wing so I am determined not to cut a hole in it. The stop screw is an idea.

Status: offline 		Lost my Fusion to day, to a striped Hitec 475 aileron servo. It was by far the best airplane I have ever had. Moral of the story don't send econo servos to do a mans job! Next Fusion will get better gear.

Status: offline 		Lost my Fusion last night after 3 flights, the left aileron came off in straight and level flight at half throttle. I found the hinge slots on the wing trailing edge to be tapered which let the CA hinge glue only a 1/16th of an inch of the trailing edge. Checked the right wing and the same thing, make sure you check those hinges so they are tight in the slot next time I'll make sure they are pinned.
The plane was rock solid and a great performer with a YS 45 on it.

I routinely improve models from cycle to cycle. I'm working on an improved fuselage construction technique and some other minor construction changes. The basic Fusion outline will remain the same as it is already perfect.

Status: offline 		Finally maidened the Fusion today. My setup is

Saito 125
All Hitec digital coreless servos Elevator 6975, Rudder 6965, Ailerons 5925MG
6 volt 1500mah battery
CG is per recomendation in the manual.
Prop MA 16X6

White and orange are oracover and trim is in monokote applied with the windex method. I had a bunch of leftover monokote so I put it to good use, 10 different colors on this plane!

Status: offline 		My maiden went really well today. This is an amazing plane. I knew it would fly well from all that I had read about it, but it goes beyond that.

I have a 90 size pattern ship, several 40-90 size 3D planes and the Fusion flies better than all of them at 3D or pattern. Knife edge is amazing it just sticks there. Knife edge loops are so tight its unbelievable. Part of this could be the servos as its the first plane I have with high end servos but performance is awesome on this bird.

It has tons of power but not the rocket out of a hover power that I expected. I expected a little more juice out of the saito. It only has a little less than a gallon through it and I am still running it rich so hopefully it will get better. Transition is great on the engine. It easily idles at 1900 and instantly accelerates to WOT.

One potential problem that I wonder if anyone else is having. Do you have any problem with fuel spray from the carb working its way into the space between the wing and fuse? I am still running rich and my plane was completely slimed but I wonder about long term oil seaping into that area.

Overall all its a winner and I will end up ordering a kit just to save in case something happens ot this one.

Status: offline 		Gringo, thanks for the report on the Fusion. You might want to redirect the exhuast of the engine so it does not spray so much oil on the wing/fuselage joint. Also make sure the root rib is fuel proofed so if you do get some oil in there you can wipe it off easily. Hope this helps.

Status: offline 		The exhaust from the muffler is shooting down below the wing. I think the residue I am seeing is from the carb. Its a lot of oil.

Maybe the residue is coming from somewhere else.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't see a line in the pictures but they are small. On mine I put a small loop on the front hatch. This is the hatch where the throttle servo plugs in. Then I just ran the blow by line through the loop.

Status: offline 		I word of warning on oil between the wings and fuse. A friend rebuilt his 52" fusion and wanted me to wring it out. After 2 minutes the left wing broke loose and showed 10degrees of dihedrel. I was able to land it. When it landed the wing panel fell to the ground.
The diagnosis. He had put a little weather strip tape around the edge of the wings to seal the area between the fuse and wings. When the wing bolt was tightend the weather strip held the rib away from the fuse. As it got tighter both inboard ribs broke around the wing bolt. OOPS! Anyway we both learned something and maybe this will save the next guy.

David, thanks for sharing that with us. I've thought about foam weather stripping myself but would add a wood spacer of the appropriate thickness at the wing bolt location. Or find weather stripping that was super thin. I just make sure to fuel proof the root rib myself now and clean if needed.

Status: offline 		This is soon to be your favorite plane. Your 7.7 lbs is in the ballpark. Mine is in the mid 7lbs with a 1.25. Our power to weight should be pretty close. The wing loading on mine is really light. If I have a problem with mine it is over controlling it. For example on a 4 point roll I wind up climbing on the inverted section. My knife edges also look like a fish swimming when it's windy. I had a bunch of flights on a 52" fusion before I got the 67". The 67" has twice the rudder and elev authority of the 52". I may have to dial in another 10% of expo on the down elev.
Be sure to let us know how the maiden goes.

Status: offline 		Ok the maiden had its up’s and downs lets just start this off by saying that this is my first real fully 3D model so to warm up for the maiden I took up my Ultimate and hot dog a little bit feeling ok I fired up the fusion having no idea I was in for Mr. Toads wild ride I throttled up it left the ground wow way to sensitive but got it up high and trim it out flew around a little bit and got it on the ground mellow out all the controls took it back up much better was just starting to have fun with it when it ran out of fuel (new engine running very rich) opps I thought no problem there was a 15 to 20 mph wind going strait down the runway did a little down wind leg turn lined up on the runway and to my amazement it just stop flying it was just setting in the air kind of slowly dropping I could keep the wings level and keep the noise up it was just slowly dropping until it went into the bushes all that happened was a little hole in one wing tip and a bent tail wheel Wow I can’t wait till next weekend to get my heart rate up again I think this will be one of my favorite planes

Status: offline 		Do you use EXPO on your radio? I rarely use low rates on mine but I have 60% expo on the elev and 50% on the aile.

Status: offline 		On the first several flights on mine I stayed in low rates and even that is a lot. The high rates are hairy for general flying unless you have a ton of expo dialed in.

Like daveopam I rarely use dual rates on my planes but I think this one will be an exception. I like the spin rate and elevator authority for 3D and funfly style flying but like the tamer single rate for F3A flying.

I'm heading out in a bit to fly my fusion. Will be trying out a 16X4 wood prop like daveopa recomends.... we'll see how it goes.
