Wth? Is it just me or is half the thread all of a sudden missing? What happened here?

Now my reply is gonna be really hard to understand but I'm not going to try and remember everything I posted yesterday. For all curious the discussion was all about my Fusion being a little too heavy for the Saito 1.25 at my height above sea level...in a nutshell.

Well spent some time on things last night and did ALOT of weighing this and weighing that and crunching the numbers. If anyone's really interested I'll get my findings more detailed but ok here's what it boils down to:

By swopping my Saito on the Fusion right now for the OS 1.20AX on my girlfriend's trainer my Fusion will in fact gain roughly 140 grams (bout 5oz). It was weighing 3494g with the Saito (Yes this is accurate now, I did alot of testing with my scale). Now I know the better half's trainer has very decent vertical pull out of a torque roll (Yes I know this for real ) and unlimited vertical pullout, it climbs healthy...not a rocket but strong enough to do some point rolls and things effortlessly going up. Another thing to note was the 1.20 was running with a 15X8 JXF nylon prop on the trainer, so I should gain a little thrust going to a 16X6 APC for instance. Now here's the killer, by removing the muffler extension which was needed on the trainer and after all my calculations the Fusion will with the 1.20 still weigh roughly 250grams (bout 9oz) lighter than the girlfriend's trainer in the old configuration. Sounds like I have a fairly easy way out of my current problem then! Wooohoooo! Downside of course is I had to butcher the beautifull nose on my Fusion to get the 1.20 to drop in, so I'm still in the process of recovering the nose and fixing all that mess up but yea, problem solved I guess!

I know the 7ch Spektrum can have 2 elev. servos on separate channels., some are flying giant scale here with that setup.

I had Saito 1.25 (new) in X100 weighing 8.25lb, it was not enough for good pullout, just barely pulled out. The OS 1.20 is hovering my Velox (9.5lbs)& pulls out good enough, not rocket but gets me out of a hover. In my Fusion its the best thrust/weight I've ever had in a glow plane, hovers at 1/4 throttle here, pull out is great, to the moon!

Thanks for the info Mix.

I just finished up (sorta) mounting the 1.20, enlarging the mount and such didn't go as silk but ok I'm content with the end result. As things are now the Fusion only gained 65grams (fart over 2oz) although it's "Spinnerless" now. The Aluminium spinner I had on's little locnut thingy is different thread than the OS. Where it all got interesting now was when I discovered the Ally spinner actually weighs more than 2oz! A slightly bigger plastic spinner I have lying around weighs less than half?!?! So guess what, tomoz I'm on a mission to get a shiny new blue or yellow plastic spinner for this bird. That outta keep my weight gain from the 1.25 to the 1.20 down to around 3oz, I'll be happy with that. Still remains to be seen what kind of CG adjustment I'm looking in the eye with all this but in the old config I was bordering on being too tail heavy for my tastes, virtually no input when doing rolling harriers and absolutely no down needed for inverted. I like flying through all my manuvers if you know what I mean.

I'll keep the updates rolling.

I think using a 5-cell 6V 2500 mah batt helped with the balancing, its rearward in the hatch area. I was going to use a 4.8 pack but figured I would need the speed. As it turned out, rolling harriers is where I need it. If you are anywhere in the 7 lb. range, you should be golden! Try a Zinger 17X5, I use them exclusively, makes it much easier to hover & go for the tail touch.

Alright got a shiny new bigger yellow plastic spinner for this bird yesterday and finished the little face lift. I only gained a 100g (3.5oz) with the whole operation so the bird should still fly great. Overall weight is now 3492gram according to my scale. That's what 7,64lbs? The CG looks to have shifted somewhere around a 1/4" forwards, I don't accurately measure these things...just eyeballed it to get an idea. Will leave judgment on that untill I fly it. Got alot of room to move the battery so not too worried, heck it might even be in that sweetspot for my tastes now.

We got the eggbeater nationals this Sunday so I'm a little caught up in getting myself and my helis ready to not completely waste my entry fee but who knows, the helis have been benched now to avoid damage before the big day so maybe I can squeeze a flight on the Fusion on Saturday between all the other commotion prepping our field for the comp.

I'll have to import one of those Zinger 17X5's so I'm not too keen but I'll check into it for sure if the 16X6 woody I got now seems a little sucky still.

Thats just .15 oz. more than my Fusion( I dont use spinners, pants or any "excess weight). You should be fine, let me know how it goes, bet it hovers way better.

John Drake's Fusion weighs 7.75 lbs and that is the one Andrew Jesky flew in the video we have on the webpage. It only had an OS .91 FX with stock muffler too.

Is the Saito 1.25 and YS 1.10 really all that much stronger than the OS .91FX for that matter? I'm starting to believe that this may not always be the case, perhaps they are a fart stronger but definitely nothing like say the 1.20AX compared to the .91FX. I flew my original Katana V2 again over the weekend with the Super Tigre .90 and a small locally manufactured throttle pipe, that plane weighs in around 2,9kg and that has excellent power just like my OMP Ultimate had. Of course my Ultimate also goes around 2,9kg and that currently flies super well with a Saito 1.25 on it...foamy power but not rocket up results, guess it's a thing with the 4-strokes.

Now I'm wondering in the back of my mind to what weight I'll be able to build a 65" Yak? Transparent Ultracote to keep the covering super light, maybe some puny tiny wheels, alot of sanding?

Yes, they are significantly stronger than the OS .91. I could run a 15-4 prop on the .91 and that was good poewr but spool up was a tad slower than my liking. I use a 16-4 on the YS 110 and power is instant. Many use the 16-6 on the YS but I like the lower pitch and faster spool up. Just gotta watch the top end and not let the engine wind out.

Took my Fusion out for a spin last eve, I missed most of a beautiful day, that work thing again! But did my first tail touches with it,I can hover this plane the whole flight ,almost. I can do harriers w/o spoilerons but it does it better with the mix, I'd rather not use it but it does it so well with them up, cant help it. I tried to transition from one 3-D stunt to another & another , it went pretty good, harrier to hover, hover to HAKE, back to hover, to harrier, and keep it low as well. Its pretty intense flying for me, pucker & all that. Rolling harriers is what I'm having the most trouble with, I have to stay way off the throttle or it will nose up,same thing with the tail feathers, too much elevator or rudder & it ruins the axial rolling. I can find a groove for a while, but it doesnt do them as nice as the Velox, any tips for this plane?

I flew my Fusion today and it made me very happy indeed. OS1.2AX and Spectrum 7.
Excellent flying model very easy to fly at low rates and a wonderful 3D plane at high.
Hovering and flying knife edge with the right hand off, from horizon to horizon is a breeze.
Great job Mike, thanks and look forward to that 80" Fusion!

BTW how does one add pictures to a post?
