Poor gear mesh, when the teeth on the gears are not aligned proper this will cause the gears to strip out. When you mesh the gears stick a peice of paper between makeing sure the paper doesnt tear. Then move the gears if the paper comes out not torn then the mesh is correct. Hope this helps.

It's not a 2 speed you are correct. Poor gear mesh, like harry said. Possibly if the clutch bell is aluminum the teeth on the clutch bell wore out. Gears on 1/10th scale nitro cars are made out of nylon, if either the clutch bell teeth wear out or the gear mesh is incorrect it can melt or rip off the teeth on the gears.

The proper way to set up your gear mesh is to put a strip of paper between the spur gear and the clutch bell gear and press the motor w/clutch bell into the spur gear and work the gear alittle to seat the paper between the teeth, then tighten down your motor mount screws and and roll the paper out of between the gears. That is your proper gear mesh.

hardly even possible to say these arent durably. I was driving down the road at full speed and hit a big piece of wood that i thought was a leaf and i rolled it on cement. Landed and then i drove away no damage also i drove it up our ditch and turned at the last second and i did a barrel roll in the air...possibly the coolest accident ever.. I drove it into my fence which has a 3 inch gap from the ground hit a bump flew in the air hit it just so half my car was under with no damage .WAtch some of the videos and say they arent durable. Also wat broke on ur car that u hated the most cause it seems like u got ripped off bad because mine is super durable and i like it im just wondering becausei dont think mines bad at all. also sometimes not getting huge name brands are good because then its cheaper to fix it it breaks. here are some vids of the car.. Just click on the ones with a car on the first pic. http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=exceed+rc&um=1&sa=N&tab=wv

the funny thing is that it says its a 2 speed and looking at the drawing in the back of the book it shows two gears on the engine gear set (thats what they call it) but there no part listed for it .but if i look at the infinitive buggy there it is

Dont give up on it You will be happy, its just like any other manufacturer out there. They all have problems. This problem is very cheap compaired to industry standards. On my duratrax the same repair is almost 80 dollars and sometime feels like its more hassle than fun. Thats what makes it a hobby. If you need parts allaboutfun can help. Just ask and hell get you the right parts.

Well the deal is that you can change it over to a 2 speed, but the 2 speed will make the truck sluggish on take off. Some stuff is translated to english and is not the best translation. You want either the spur gear or the whole transmission. If you can take pics of the problem that would always help to in the future.

keystone, hope you get this thing fixed, I know my son loves ripping through the soccer fields with my buggy. The parts to switch to a 2 speed are relatively cheap and it seems like a simple job. I would stick with the single speed but if you want 2 I say go for it. As for durability, I am extremely hard on all RC toys(hence the screen name). I have brocken, crashed, totally destroyed every rc plane, helicopter, etc... I have gotten. My buggy has tacken some abuse. I ran into a fence post at full speed, only cost $3.00 to fix. My dad just ran it into the tire of a tractor trailer and again it was less than $4.00 for the part. I stock up on parts to keep shipping costs down but this has been my most durable RC product so far. I have rolled it many times with no damage and hit countless objects with the same results. Pay no mind to what Derrick has to say. He continues to come to this forum to bash a product but has never stated what his experience was with it. He simply says he had a bad experience and that this brand is junk.
You will find that most of us here disagree with him and we are extremely happy with our purchase. I know you are having a problem with your car now but give the previous advice about the gear mesh a try. Every brand has problems. Yesterday I watched my parents neighbor run his HPI Hellfire around the street. He only lasted about 15 minutes before he was shut down by problems (not sure what was wrong, engine ran but the tires didn't turn). He seems to have constant problems with this vehicle. He knows his stuff and races these things all the time. By the way this guy expects his Exceed titan truck to be here next monday. He ordered one because he wanted something to play with at home without having to worry about costly repairs.
Derrick, could you please inform us of what happened with your car\truck for you to determine that they are junk. Perhaps someone here could help you fix it. With out knowing what your experience is all we can assume is that you have no valid reason to call them junk and you are simply bashing a less expensive brand.

I guess some people just feel a need to justify their spending of alot of money by trying to bring down those who spend less.
