Hi

for my new project P-47 I need a 20 inch 4-blade propeller. I looked at Zinger and solo prop, both are not exactly what I'm looking for. the search here on RCU and Yahoo, Google had no result.
I know there are some discussion out here about 4-blade for large engines (3.2ci gas) - but DUH.....i can't find them

...help

thanks

happy landings

You 3.2 won't turn a 20" 4 blade with enough authority to fly a model.

What props does your engine turn now?

There really aren't many 4-blade props made. By anyone. It's why they are hard to find.

There is one mfg who makes prop/hub systems. They sell the blades individually. They sell 2, 3, and 4 blade hubs from stock and I think will make others on order. The blades look like the later prop that was used on the P47s. One benefit of the system is that you can dial in whatever pitch you wish.

Also try looking around at Bolly's site too. Here's the link. http://www.bolly.com.au/

The Bolly book 2008 has lots of info far beyond props if you have the time.

Without a reduction drive of some sort, your 3.2 won't turn that large a 4-blade prop. I don't remember where I saw it or who makes it, but seems like there is a reduction drive made (not the Byron one) that I saw fit to a G-38. It was a 2:1 reduction, very compact, and it allows the engine to fit higher on the firewall (the cylinder won't stick down as far and appearance is nicer). Then all you need is a higher pitched prop.

Byrons requires the engine to mount way back in the fuse, and it sticks out and is ugly. This drive bolts to the front of the engine, the pulleys almost touch, and only added an inch or so to the overall length of the engine. Ought to fit the cowl of a Jug just fine. If I remember where I saw it, I'll post it.

Look at www.warbirdpropdrives.com. There's a pic of an upright DA-50 on a Mustang. It's not the one i was thinking of, but very similar.

80cc engine and a Solo or Zinger prop would do it, but I suspect you would tear the plane in two.

Thanks all for the posts.

I talked yesterday to Carl from Solo-Props, he told me my 50cc will pull a 18-6 or a 18-8. The speed will be near the same. This answered my questions.
This week I will make my mind up if I go with the solo-prop, there is no alternative. My engine has a 6 bold pattern with a shaft in the middle, this eliminates the Zinger. Just to sad – could save a bunch of money (Geico?!)

This project is too small (81inch) for a gear reduction, I will look into it.

BTW: Jgear, I ordered some stuff at Mick Reeves cool online store.

Happy landings

With an 18-6, your warbird will fly at crawling speed at full throttle.
