I can almost garauntee you that the Stampede will be tougher then the Emaxx. Stock for stock that is. Look around and see how many people have upgraded all the stock Emaxx plastic to aluminum, RPM, or Proline. It is a great truck, and the plastic is probably the same plastic used on the Stampede, but then you got the weight factor. More stress on the plastic. The Stampede is VERY easy to keep running. I've owned over 5 Stampedes in my years, and I've been more then satisfied with every one of them. Like mentioned above, the only items needed for the Stampede right out of the box is a new steering servo, servo saver, and electronic speed control. You could replace the motor as well if you want, but the stock Stinger is a great motor to enter the hobby with. You could get all the essential hopups, and then some more performance parts for the Stampede with the money you saved instead of buying the Emaxx. I don't know about you, but my Pede outjumped many Emaxx's. My friend jumped his over a Suburban, length wise. Did a couple backflips, landed on the concrete on its wheels, and drove away with a couple scratches on the skid plates. If you like to make custom parts out of aluminum or what not, the Stampede has such a simple design. The chassis are so easy to dupliciate out of aluminum or lexan. There are conversion instructions out there to make your Stampede a dual motor, four wheel drive truck. If the lust for an Emaxx gets too great (which I highly doubt after you see how fun the Stampede is) just do the 4x4 conversion, and run twin Titans, and EVX, and dual batteries. I've run my Rustler w/ Stampede body mounts and Masher tires in the nitro monster truck class at the local class for kicks. I wanted to see what other people thought. I was staged with all Tmaxx's in my first and second heats. I easily won both heats by almost a lap. Some say yeah right, but the track was tight, and electric torque wins out over nitro on tight tracks. Plus I was able to take the turns much faster, and didn't flip over like all the Tmaxx's. So in the A Main I was second with a couple minutes to go, with a Savage a couple turns ahead. He flipped over and I had the blessing of a turn marshall who would rather twiddle his thumbs then pick up a truck. So after his mishap I was right on the bumper of the Savage when my front left wheel nut fell off, and my wheel rolled away to the side of the track. I ended up getting passed by a Tmaxx, but I held 3rd place in the A main. They are very capable trucks. Awesome to race. Many people agree the Stampede is one of the toughest trucks out there. I've actually got mine stuck in trees after a jump off the shed roof went wrong. I've ran packs thru packs seeing what I could make these things take, and they have always came back for more. I have actually sheered Associated aluminum screws in half before I broke a stock part. So you know what I would get [:D]
