Hey Folks,

Has anyone tried shrink wrap covering? The type you use on a Marine Boats.
I know you can get 3,4,5,7mils in thickness, and that stuff is damn hard to puncture.
I was thinking if you Spray Glued the foam, then add the wrap. Seemed it. Then Shrunk It. It "could" be a strong covering.

Had to put emphasis on the could!

What do you think?

It might be possible, but doesn't it use a fairly high heat to shrink? Too much heat will melt the foam under it. Give it a try and let us know.

Another issue may be it's failure mode. One of the advanages of tape is that the seams provide a natural "ripstop" effect. Tears stop at the doubled seams which prevents the entire wing from failing all at once. But from what I recall from using that kind of stuff, it is rather hard to tear.

Since tape is about 0.5 mill thickness, I would guess that the shrink wrap would be tough as nails but very heavy.
