Radical Departure -> Electron 6 Channel 6 (8/14/2007 10:31:21 PM)

I've looked through a couple posts relating to channel 6 on the electron 6. "Plug the power into any channel" is the recurring theme. That may be fine for glow or gas, or maybe I'm missing something. Plane in question is electric, trx is Eclipse. Speed controller plugs into channel 3. Battery is plugged into controller. I'm pretty sure without trying that if I plug that into channel 5 its not going to work. So, I want to use seperate ali. channels, just plugging it into 6 does nothing. Anything to getting this functionality? Any suggestions appreciated..
HM

Assuming your speed control has a bec (most do) yes you plug it into channel three. For the second alieron you need to mix channel 6 to channel one.

Thats what I thought.. man.. nothing easy anymore![;)]

MikeMayberry -> RE: Electron 6 Channel 6 (8/15/2007 6:39:32 PM)

Power is supplied to the RX via the ESC in channel #3.

Activate flapperon mixing and plug each aileron into channels #1 & #6.

Mike.

Will give that a try this evening, Thanks Mike!

Well.. tried everything suggested and still nada. The flaperon function works, but whats the point? Get the same results with a y-cable. The whole idea behind putting them on seperate channels was so I could do a flaperon type function that would raise the ailerons a bit during harrier. Needless to say, can't have that function active and do that as well. Tried plugging into channel 5 and doing a mix with 1. No dice, right one moves fine, left one just sits there. Tried a 1-6 mix, same thing, just sits there. One of the club members is going to look at it tonight, he thinks he can program it to work. Have my doubts, we'll see!

To wit.. the more I do this and the larger more complex my planes get, the more I'm finding myself limited by the TX. Hitec, you haven't released a new radio in years, and nothing on the horizon. Nothing that reflects the current trends and needs of the hobby and user. How much 3D and such was being done 6 years or so ago when the Eclipse came out? How much have the planes and setups changed in that time? What does that say? I'll tell you.. time to move on to JR or Futaba. Don't get me wrong. I've been a diehard Hitec guy from the start, and in a lot of ways still am, but I really think when I retire my Eclipse later this year, it'll be the last Hitec radio I get. Off my soapbox now...

MikeMayberry -> RE: Electron 6 Channel 6 (8/17/2007 6:48:06 PM)

You can do everything you want with the Eclipse. It's actually a fine 3D radio as is the Optic... they were good enough to compete in the ETOC and Extreme Fligh Champs so I'm not sure why you are so down on the radio. I can walk you through it if you can't figure it out... but don't blame the radio for something you say it can't do because the functionality is there!

While this tutorial is for the Optic it would also apply to the Eclipse in many cases too... it may help you with what you want to do. http://www.hitecrcd.com/product_file/file/110/OpticTutorial.pdf

Or call us; we're happy to help you.

FYI: We are actually working on a new 9 channel radio but it is still a few months away.

Mike.

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not down on the radio nor am I trying to tweak noses. I'm a pretty pragmatic guy, as I see it, the reality is that the Eclipse becoming outdated. Sure, guy's are still flying with it, but to somewhat imply that the only difference between it and say, a DX7 is 2.4 is unrealistic. Its great at knife-edge mixes and so forth, but once you wander off into dual elevators, dual ailerons and so forth it becomes a bit more problematic where those mixes, trims and such are concerned. Some of those things can be worked around, but many times working around something means you're reaching some limitation with current equipment. I used to run my company's network on Netware, probably still could with some degree of difficulty. But the apps and technology have changed, so I have to move the company another direction to take advantage of those advances and new vendor requirements. Same thing in the RC world. The radios change to keep up with the planes.

But I digress. The Eclipse has been a great radio, heck, I learned to fly with the thing. It has one feature I love, and I cannot for the life of me understand why all radios don't have it. Throttle lock. That one button is worth its weight in gold. Its only after you catch a hand in the prop that you truly appreciate that function. Anyway, I'll check out the pdf and mess with it some more, its not life or death kind of thing on this particular plane. Will be looking to see what the new 9 channel brings to the table. Thanks again Mike for responding, HM

Leslie Ward -> RE: Electron 6 Channel 6 (8/21/2007 2:46:36 PM)

I. ll be watching this thread from a Beginners point of view. I am not a "tech writer" by any means, but it would seem that the manual is not written to take full advantage of the Eclipse capabilities. Confuses the reader owner/end user so he calls= $$$$$

I am setting up a EZG Electric RR and would like throttle on left stick. ( no problem there ) also would like spoilerons/flaperons.
After getting almost there in setup process left ail. servo would not move in either direction. I ended up clearing out the memory
and starting over.

I am attempting to do this in Acro mode and have all servos in there approiate slots. I think for my little pea brain the problem lies in two areas at least at this point and thats where the manual goes into one area and then says we will come back to it later. Para. 16 on P. 14 and the last line of Para. 23 on P. 15.

EPA? I think this is where I am screwing up, and I may have set up travels as though I was doing Ail Diferential.

And thats as far as I have gotten on the third time around , On this Plane that is.
But I have not given up!!!

Aloha, Les

Leslie,
The info. you need is on page 22-23. If your plane doesn't have retracts, use Mix #3, turn it on and off with the gear switch, though you will want to leave it on. You may need to adjust some travel or reverse ch. 6 servo. I've got the mix to work but had difficulty getting the travel correct on the reversed servo. As I understand it, once you can get them set up correctly, you should then be able to use the flaperon function. Sorry can't be more specific with settings, as mentioned I've not had great success with these type mixes.

Leslie Ward -> RE: Electron 6 Channel 6 (8/22/2007 5:15:47 AM)

Thanks Rad.

Well so far I have got flaperons on the VR 1(I think) not sure if I can reverse the servos in this function, and spoilerons on the flt condition Switch ( Land mode ) Not exactly what I was looking for but I will fly it and see how I like it. Thanks for the help.
Aloha, Les
