TEXAS ARMOR ASSOCIATION BATTLEFIELD CONSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY!! FINALLY after 4 years of searching and negotiating with CAMP MABRY in AUSTIN TEXAS we were BLESSED to have the TEXAS ARMOR ASSOCIATION BATTLEFIELD find its home in MONAVILLE, TEXAS on the BOMBERFIELD GROUNDS!!! www.bomberfieldusa.com
The generous and prolific R/C BOMBER/AIRPLANE Modeler offered to let us build a battle field on his property as long as we use AMA Guidelines for FREQUENCIES!! SO we have us a site!!!
First things first....
WE staked out the land.. approx 60ft x 50ft...
Next we mowed the coastal hay short.. very short...
FOLLOWED the mowing up with (2) Passes with ROUND-UP weed and grass Killer.... READ... 2 VERY saturated spray passes with ROUNDUP spaced 5 days apart...
WELL.... Larry walked in and found ERIN and RANDY "RESEARCHING and BRAINSTORMING" some TANK BATTLE TACTICS int the A/C...HMMMM....that was thier story..... and they stuck to it!!!!

NEXT with a lot of help from MIKE we layed out the anti-weed mat/cloth... THIS IS for use anywhere you want to keep weeds and grass from growing through... AT least it prevents that stuff for a while.... We rolled out and staked down 17 rolls of 3ft x 60 ft anti-weed cloth... IT was a looooooong day!!!

TODAY 14th, AUGUST we received (4) DUMP TRUCK LOADS of "bank sand".... This is a soil that has mostly rich red dirt with some sand in it... It is perfect for tanks.... NO small rocks in it no large rocks...100% soil.... So no pebbles to get stuck in your TANK TRACKS!!
Got to spread the DIRT out with a SKID STEER tractor.... THAT WAS a ton of fun..... WE now have enough dirt to make varying elevations/terrain....
ALSO CLEANED up the PERIMETER of the BATTLEFIELD TO MAKE room for the "COMMAND CENTER" / storage unit.... ALL done with the cool little diesel powered skid steer (BOBCAT).....
NOTE the BIG PILE of GRASS/WEEDS/WOOD/POLES etc... THAT is the BONFIRE PILE for SUNDAY!!

MISSION : RAILROAD TIES DROP OFF AND INSTALLATION
-36 RAILROAD TIES WERE NEEDED TO ENCLOSE THE BATTLEFIELD AREA. WE WERE ABLE TO ACQUIRE THEM FOR ONLY $7.60 EACH.... THE LOCAL RAILYARD WAS NOT EASY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH SO WE JUST WENT AHEAD AND PURCHASED THESE FROM A FEED STORE... TRUSTY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX 2WD WITH 5.7L V-8 381 HP / 401 LBFT TORQUE HAULED THOSE TIES EASILY FROM 150 MILES AWAY... ALMOST GOT COMPLETELY STUCK THOUGH AT BOMBERFIELD IN THE MUD... USED THE AUTO LIMITED SLIP AND AFTER A LOT OF MUD SLINGING SHE MOVED ON OUT..... (CHECK OUT THE TRAILER,,,, AND MUD ON THE TIES...YUCK!!!!!!!!) hEY "ICECREAMSLICK " JASON... THIS IS ONE WORKDAY YOU CAN BE GLAD YOU MISSED..... AHAHAHAA
WE RECENTLY HAD HEAVY RAINS AND THE SURROUNDING AREA WAS QUITE MUDDY AND WET.... YET THE TEXAS ARMOR TROOPS MARCHED ON ... THROUGH THE MUD AND MUCK... NEVER WAVERING UNTIL THE RAIL TIES WERE INSTALLED....
MISSION WAS A COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS TO ERIN, RANDY, LARRY , PETER.......
IT WAS A MUGGY AND WET/MUDDY ONE!!! STILL HAD A GREAT TIME...
HEY .... WHO BROUGHT THAT CUTE LITTLE UMBRELLA.... HA!!

WELL..... in just a few weeks we have made tremendous progress....
Just look at the 1st and 2nd photos...
We are meeting again soon to start landscaping and installing bridges , stream, pond, and determine the exact 1st layout....
This is the 1st phase of the Battlefield... If things go well then next year we will be expanding the battlefield towards the hangar area... We plan on having a workshop/Storage facility out there with work benches, charging stations, air conditioning, T.V. , Refrigerator and a covered porch.... Should make for a comfortable TANK CLUB EXPERIENCE!!!!
If anyone would like to come out and visit us you are more than welcome!! just email me for directions and bring your tank, icechest, and a hat!!

Looking good!
If you want to build larger hills, try using CMU blocks (concrete blocks) to save you on time and dirt. Really helpful if you change you mind and want to move it.
