When you paint your German commander figure don't paint the peaked cap black, paint it feldgrau(grey green) with pink pipeing around the crown and above and below the band. The black peaked caps were early algemeine and LSAH when wearing the parade black uniforms not with the black panzer wraps. If the figure is wearing the wedge cap it can be black but feldgrau is acceptable as well

Here's a great link.... hat piping is the same as collar piping.

The Wife used to "customize" 1/6 GI Joes and used this site to print her collar tabs, shoulder boards etc...

Yes the piping should be the same as the pipeing on the collar and shoulderboards. But The pipeing on the collar was early war they dispensed with pipeing on the collars. The branch color was retained on the tabs and shoulderboards. Officer boards had the branch color for it's underlay. No when it comes to waffen ss early war caps had the different pipeing according to the branch of service ie pzr pink, inf white, and so on but then they changed and all caps had white pipeing. But some of the older men still kept their early caps with the branch pipeing. Now when it comes to shoulder boards the ss were different than the army the ss had the branch color and the black underlay of the ss where the army just had the branch color no black underlay. Another thing different between ss caps and army caps the band color was different ss was black and the army was bottle green with the branch color pipeing above and below the band. There are what they call a crusher cap these were different from the peaked cap in that they had soft leather beaks and some were cloth covered beaks. they could be folded up and put in a pocket where the regular peaked cap couldn't. Also the crusher cap didn't have the chin cords or leather chin strap the em/nco that the peaked cap had. Some officers did put their chin cords on their crusher caps and some officers would remove the spring from aroune the inside of the crown to give the cap the salty oe crusher look and removed the chin cords. Complicated isn't it. Another thing is there was a difference between the army and the ss wrapper(yunic). The ss one the flap was straight down th front where the army one was at an angle. Generally the tank crews wore the black wrappers and stug crews wore the fieldgrey wrappers. Stug crews had red pipeing not pink as they were concidered artillery not panzer

Hey, I thought I was an "okay" figure painter. But THIS fellow on the "Polish Modellers' Showcase" makes me want to throw away all my brushes...!

(It's Dragon's 1/16 GrossDeutschland Officer, of course -- but he puts even that famous "Dragon Box Art" to shame!)

I know what you mean that guy is fantastic. I only found 2 minor errors. 1 the star part of the German Cross in Gold should be black with silver edgeing and 2 he forgot the branch colors in the officers litzen but the rest sure makes up for it
