I just purchased an Ultra stick .40 and set it up for a quad flaps. Per the manual it can be set up for a 5 channel radio, but there are no instructions on how to do it. I have one of the recommend radios in the instructions: The JR 421EX. Am I going to be able to set it up? Will I have to have 2 "Y" connectors?? Help if you know..

I have set up 2 airplanes with the quad flap/crow modes, but both used 7 channels, 4 of these are in the wings, one for each servo. With a 6-channel radio, you can do most of the stuff, but not get full span ailerons since both flaps would be on the same channel.

I checked the Ultra Stick manual and the 421EX manual and it appears you can have flaperons using the full span aileron set and a flaperon wing type with one aileron servo plugged into the aileron channel and the other into the gear channel or you can have separate flaps using the ailerons and flap set with the gear channel for the flaps.

If you use 4 servos, you would need 2 Y-connectors, one for your ailerons and one for flaps.

This gives you flaps on one Y and Ailerons on the other Y....

If you use a radio that has quadflap mixing built in like the 8103 you can actually make the both flaps work as ailerons...With the Y harness setup you only get channel #2 aileron and channel #5 flap.

So you Y harness those things into those channels. No mixing is needed for this.

So basically I can only use a 5 channel as a flaperon setup. I won't be able to crow or any of the crazy stuff until I get a radio with more channels.. Is that correct?

This way you can have flaps and ailerons as separate channels.

I don't think you can get quadflap mixing in that radio....but I do beleive it has flapperon.....so you could get Flap-aileron or flapperon mixing to work......My suggestion would be to hook it up a couple different ways...#1 "y" harness the flaps together and the ailerons together. Then turn on the flapperon mix and see what happens. In this way you might get the best situation

or #2 "y" harness the left side Flap and aileron together then the right side Flap and aileron together then use flapperon and you will get both flap and aileron for the given side moving together and no way for the flap on the right to go up and the aileron on the right to go down.

I think #1 is your best option. Its a trial and erro thing.....Look in your manual for the radio it might have clues.
