To be honest I never priced out the hpi. I would imagine they are roughly the same price. They are kind of the same caliber car unitl you go into like a kyosho or mugen or serpent type car where you'll pay a premium. I would assume just over the $400 mark.

I have an RS4 18ss and I purchased it with the intention of bashing and taking it out to my local track every once in a while. Ive posted on a few threads here saying how impressed I was with how the HPI handled the track conditions. I will admit, its no Mugen/Serpent or NT1 but the car performed well. The car has a few hop ups and I know that contributes to the overall performance at the track but in stock trim I'm sure it would be just as fun. I was pretty much the only HPI out there amidst all these high end racers. I was definitely the underdog the few times I went out. I would vote for the HPI here just cause its a pretty good overall performer. Not knocking the traxxas at all but it is a top speed monster and alot less forgiving in normal parking lot bashing situations. Ill tell you what, those light poles can do some serious damage at 60mph!

Tower has great deals with those coupon offers. If I get any Ill keep an eye out and PM you with the coupon code.

From what i have witnessed with my Nitro 4-TEc w/.15 purchased eons ago when they first came out(best car of the year), It is a great car. It is still crazy scary fast, handles pretty good when it has grippy tires on it and the driver can keep his finger out of it long enough to keep the tires on the rim (yes i glued them). I do not know about HPI cars i've always thought about getting one but with the 3.3 out that has left my mind. Either car can be set up to race at a track or bash in a parking lot. It doesnt really matter. What matters is how readily available the parts are and what kind of nasty fast mods can you do to it so that it will spank the competition.

In this case RS4 is way too far ahead from traxxas. One thing I can say: imagine an RS4 18ss fully modified with parts from LRP and hot bodies that associate with HPI and fit perfectly. I've seen one of them and it stood on track seriously against even 1/10 racers. To be precice the person who had it had spent more than he would have spent if he bought a pure racer but the fact is that RS4s have such a potential.

i agree, i think my rs4 has plenty of potential for what it is, and not a competition car, it can handle just as well as some competition cars, if you spend time with it, and tune it.

And quality of materials that 4tec and RS4 use is something that can't be compared...I believe that HPI's is one of the best in the market.

Just to let you know, I have an older super nitro rally, from HPI, and it has taken more abuse than any of my other cars without breaking one part. I bought the car from a friend, who I am also working on a 4tec (carpet racer) for, and the traxxas has more broken parts after the same amount of wheel time. The shaft drive has never broken or stripped anything, either. I'm putting the third set of belts on for the 4tec. I'm very happy with HPI's quality.
