Which shall I get the Traxxas Nitro 4-TEC or the Hpi RS4 RTR Evo +
I want a good bang for the buck, durability and a reasonable speed.

well it depends. do you want decent handling too? If you want reasonabl speed go with the RS4, the 4tec is too much in that area only, and isnt that great at everything else.

Yep, if you want crazy speed up and down outside your house but don't want to turn much and like spending money on belts, then the 4tec is the car for you. If you want a good all rounder that's still fast enough, go for the HPI.

speed-traxxas
handling-hpi

its pretty much the same with all the cars/trucks made by these 2...traxxas wants high top speeds so they can slap a 70 or 65mph on the side of the box and impress noobs (kinda like how i was). hpi isnt too concerned about speed because they know handling is wat wins races.

though i would add my .02. i would have to say either/or. if you now what you want to do either one is capable of both. both can race, both can bash, both can go fast in a straight line. in my opinion the hpi cars i have seen look kinda flimsy and poorly constructed. also to add with all the fuss about the 4-tec not being able to handle but yet hpi makes a handling kit(although most of criticizing of the 4-tec is from noobs when it says on the box "For Experienced Drivers". its really all about personal preference. also, the comment about replacing belts on the 4-tec all the time is... well. you know hpi uses belts as well (on their "race" cars anyways).

while the cars do help, the driver is what wins races.

my 1st rc car was a jato 3.3...experienced? not hardly...y did i get it? cuz they slapped a 65mph on the side of the box. i dont think anyone cares what they say about skill level

I'd go for the HPI.

jkdv8, the HPI uses a shaft drive to deliver power, not a belt drive. Only the R40 uses a belt drive.

I think he means that the top race cars use belts. To which I'd reply, yes, they do, but people don't run them in parking lots and outside their houses (and if they do, then yes, they will go through belts as well). The 4tec is not a race car by any stretch. Driver or not.

people who tends to believe in the 4tec being a capable racer or basher r jas plain nuts.... i hope Traxxas supply the 4tec with a transmitter without the wheel, coz that thing only goes straight...... n den let them advertise 105mph so they can capitalizes more on innocent speedfreaks wasting money on a wannabee rc car!!! ]

id say traxxas is more for starters, just sothey learn how to tune and such. i have a jato and i will never ever race it no matter what mods you can do to make it turn. i dont think traxxas cares too much about handling, and if they do, then i dont know wat to say. every car/truck made by traxxas (maybe except revo) are for bashing, not racing period

not to sure bout on road cars from hpi, but ive heard their trucks are bout the most durable out there. as far as parts availability i think you have a better chance of finding traxxas parts, but thats wat tower hobbies is for

I dont think HPI makes filmsy and poorly contstucted plastic. They actually make great quality plastic compared to other manufacturers. Of course except for the HPI E10, such a cheap starter car, I can flex the whole chassis so easily.

HPI's radio tray is excellent. Protects all the electronics and the whole radio set comes off so easily. Here compare the plastic and chassis layouts:

Traxxas:http://www.rcsite.com/images/attachments/T/r/TraxxasNitro4Tec33_a3629399b7b143bdb77006cc8eea1c64.520x640.jpg
HPI: http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3858/img0251gu3.jpg

Youd be better off with a shaft drive than a belt if your just gonna be running it in the open so you dont destroy belts. Their a more simple design and also more accessible and easier to pull apart and put back together.

Heres your choices:
-Kyosho FW05T+
-HPI 18ss+
-AE NTC3

You guys are nuts. If you put the sway bars on the 4tec in handles fine. The reason your hpi's handle better are because there slower.

I dont race and im sure the hpi is better on the track but just because the 4tec is faster doesnt mean it cant handle as well. Just have to be easy on the trigger. It will bust anything stock for stock. (plus the $5 sway bar kit)

As Pirelli tyres would say "Power is nothing without control"

Too much speed can become a handicap at times. You cant exactly enter and corner at those high speeds. Im sure the 4tec can take corners aswell but its not as agile and manoueverable like other cars

Tyres, Suspension Adjustability,Low center of gravity, Chassis layout & Weight Distribution, Ideal Power to Weight Ratio, Lightweighting and maybe even aerodynamics... these are qualities that make a good handling car
