Hi all. I have a Lama V4 and one of the motors overheated and seized up. Replaced it with a new one and after only a few flights that motor overheated and is no good. these motors don't come with heat sinks. My question is has anyone tried the heat sink for the Blade CX2 motors. They are 180's and look the same as the Lama as far as I can tell from the photos. I will order some and see it I can adapt them to the Lama. It's been the same motor, the rear one, cooking both times. Thanks for any input.

Check to make sure your shafts are true and that your gears are true.

It sounds like the mesh is screwed somehow and is cooking the motor.

Thanks bz. I inspected it closely and everything was real smooth and there was no binding. the gear mesh was good. But there must be a problem cause no one else seems to be frying motors. I was able to adapt the heat sink from my old King 2 burnt out brushed motor. Maybe it will help out. I'll put a dab of grease on the gear too.I have 2 new motors on the way. I should probably limit my flight time to 5 or 6 minutes. Why do these motors get so hot? I think the solder on the capacitors was starting to melt. thanks

wow if its getting that hot then i think the motor is straining. is it only one motor? i would check if everything spins freely.

Yep. it's the motor that turns the top rotors and the flybar and the center shaft. I think the little extra load of the flybar is what's causing it to heat up more than the other one. Everything turns freely and the gear mesh is good so I don't know why it get's so hot aside from the 85 degrees in the room that I was flying in. I could swap connectors on the 4 in 1 and see if the other motor fries but I have made a heat sink for it and I think that will help dissipate the heat enough. Has anyone replaced theirs with the Xtreme motors from www.miracle-mart? apparently Xtreme makes some cool upgrades for the Lamas.

Just a little follow up. Put the new 180 motor in and used the heat sink from my old Honeybee King2 stock brushed motor. Had to reshape it but got it to clamp on at the bottom half of the motor and used a little thermal paste. After 12 flights no problems. I would like to place a heat sink on the forward motor too but it looks like there's not too much room. I am allowing the motors to cool down between flights. Hope it lasts longer than the previous two motors.
