Status: offline 		Whats the trick of seperating the backing and the covering on ultra coat. Is the actual covering part thinner than the backing?

Status: offline 		With Ultracoat the backing is a thin paper, and is usually quite easy to seperate from the covering. In fact, it's been my experience with Ultracoat the backing will actually start falling off after you handle it a little bit.

Status: offline 		use an exacto knif blade at the edge,you can wrinkle the edges also that works.i think the backing is thicker.

Status: offline 		The old school method of separating backing material from an adhesive covering is using two small pieces of masking tape - Put these two pieces of tape in identical locations on opposite sides of what you want to separate and simply pull the two pieces of tape apart and thus the backing from the covering. I'm making it sound more complicated than it really is...

Much better than messing around trying to separate with a knife or using fingernails.

Status: offline 		With Ultracote it's very simple:

Take a corner and fold it about 1/2" from the edge toward the paper side.

The paper will stay folded more than the covering will, so they will separate

Status: offline 		When I'm covering with Ultracote the backing falls off sometimes when cutting smaller pieces but no biggie.

Nice choice to cover with Ultracote! I've covered two kit built planes with it and have no complaints.

Status: offline 		you think it is tough to separate ultracote? try monocote. that thin plastic backing and it is really bonded on there. tape trick works killer though.

Status: offline 		There's a trick to MonoKote too...

Scratch the backing several times by stroking it sideways with a razor blade or hobby knife. The backing will wrinkle and bubble up and come off easily (Do this on a corner)
