I've ran two gallons through my 4.1 rtr savage. Recently, when starting I need to give it 1/4 throttle to start. If i let off it will die. After starting, I do a few warm up runs, but if I let off the throttle it dies.
After it is completely warm and i am through 1/4 of the tank of fuel, I can get completely off the throttle and it idles just fine.
What do I need to do so that I don't have to give it throttle to get it started?

Turn the Speed idle 1/4 clockwise.
The you should be ok
You can also turn the HSN Highspeed needle clockwise 1/8.

Hopes this helps a little:P

By turning the idle needle clockwise, wouldn't that give the carb less fuel? I am needing to give it more fuel to start, so that wouldn't make any sense.

Keep in mind that nitro engines can require retuning day to day or even during the day if you have weather changes. Now many times you will have to give a little throttle to start a cold engine and is why high end radios have an idle up function. Even when starting a 1 to 1 car cold they have a fast idle till warm.

If I understood ev1er correctly, he meant the idle speed screw, not the low speed needle. He's recommending that you open the throttle slightly with the idle screw rather than the throttle servo. At crank starting speeds, you aren't giving it more fuel when you open the throttle, you are adding more air, i.e., leaning the mixture. At crank speeds you aren't really drawing much fuel. If you want to adjust the LSN, you probably need to lean it (clockwise on most carbs). Check the setting with the pinch test to confirm.
