Hi Guys.

2 Flights in, and , AWESOME!.
First flight CG was a little on the nose , our fault, we didnt have anything to go by.
Engine was exceptionally smooth for a first tank of fuel.

Took off and trimmed it and went into some mild aeros as i didnt feel the CG was suited for 3D yet.
Snaps are so locked in and the point rolls too.
It feels really locked in in all maneuvres, and get this, i tried a low ish KE pass using high alpha with full rudder, using only the throttle to keep it there, there was NO coupling, which is something that will take some getting used to but im not complaining :)

Anyhow enough for now, havent been home in 5 days due to building this thing and getting it demoed
Pics and video are done and on the way.

3D i havent really tried apart from a low ish hang but the CG wasnt feeling too good so until i get it back!

Another winner from EF!

Nice flying Graham!

Did your coupler come lose on the pipe? Diagnosis/fix? Also how much mixing did you have to do for those nice slow high alpha knife edge passes? Did you weigh the plane all done?

Thanks, I have been gathering components.

Richard

TomG3D -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 1:03:50 PM)

HI dude.

Havent weighed it yet!
And the carbon keeps slipping off the teflon using a standard spring so im upgrading to a jubilee clip with a self tapper as a back up. Should work a treat.

And i was using basically no mixing for the high alpha KE believe it or not, its one of the things ive picked up on.

Will weigh it when i get a chance, hopefully get out again with it tomorrow and get some DOD shots lol.

CG will be changed tonight, as will the exhaust issue, which i hate cause the engine has to come off lol. but oh well !, its worth it hehe.

We've been rushed so much this last weekend to get it demoed.
will have some flying pics up soon!

flat spin -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 3:32:42 PM)

What a great weekend. Hats off to Tom and especially Nathan who did a sterling job putting this thing together so quickly.

It was really nice to see this thing fly, and Tom did a great job with a brand new DA, especially considering the second flight was at a show.

I am fairly certain it is right on the 16Lb mark it is really light and with that ES pipe the power is crazy. CG I would guess could come back around 1" or more easily but that is an easy fix. The model flies beautifully though and is stunning to look at it really is. , there will be more pictures coming tonight. I know Graham took a bunch with my camera which i will start going through in the next coupld of hours I am sure you managed to grab a few good ones in there.

Look out for some video this weekend too. Tom will be flying the Extra at this years UK Freestyle Championships so I will be filming away as much as possible.

Wow, that video is awesome. For sure a must have plane for someone that loves Extra 300's. Great looking scheme as well.

TailTouch -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 7:34:41 PM)

Is that the 50cc Extra between the 2 big 50cc Yaks ?
If so, it looks so much smaller than the Yaks.

TomG3D -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 7:44:02 PM)

its bigger by wingspan.

But a yak is a much bigger plane in scale terms as well so i didnt expect it to be quite the girth of the yak.
Its still one of the largest 50cc models around, its fuz is about as wide as the yak but it sits lower to the ground so it will look smaller and the fuz isnt quite the same depth either.
They are not far off
:)

TomG3D -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 8:00:06 PM)

Front on too. You've got all that side area of the Yaks to compete against. In actual fact i had expected the Yak to look much bigger then it does next to the Extra none the less the Yak is still bigger. The fact that it is about a 1Lb heavier says it all really.

fishgod -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 8:01:48 PM)

A tip from a pattern flyer on the coupler coming off of the carbon pipe. Clean the end where the coupler goes on with alcohal, lightly sand it, put 10 or 15 wraps of kevlar thread stacked on top of each other. Soak it with thin CA. It makes a nice barb that will keep the clamp from sliding off.

flat spin -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/28/2007 8:07:52 PM)

Just to clarify Tom's last post was in fact from me Flat Spin. He has been utilising my computer during the build and the system logged him in automatically, Ooops.

Wow, is this really the 50cc plane in the middle? It looks so tiny compared to the yak.
