panicman -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/29/2007 2:06:46 AM)

It was mentioned in one of the yak threads that a 78" extra may be comming, it that still a possibility?

nitro wing -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/29/2007 2:29:53 AM)

Really? that would be an odd size,kinda big for nitro ,and kinda small for real gas,Maybe a 160 size brother to the 160 size Yak?
I am really liking this 88.5
Even with a new DA it seemed to have Foamy Pullout [:D]
I like what I see so far

Richard D Bahmann aka/Wrongway -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/29/2007 2:58:02 AM)

Nitro, the DA fiddy and pipe ought to be giving near 32-34 lbs of thrust on a 16 (16.75 lb mayby with fuel) airframe. You are approacing the 2 to 1 power curve. That is cool in my book!!

Now all I would like to see is the red, the blue and the red/blue scemes side by side to decide.[;)]

I am thinking DL-50 on Ecomposites tuned pipe with a single 2 cell A123 on flight and a single cell A123 on ignition. The Bisson type fiberglass spinner is a pain in the long run wit the 6 screws to set (I would like to find a light white...most likely glass spinner with that shape).

I have owned/flown (see my models) what may very well be a distant cousin of this plane with 85 inches and 16 lbs and I thought the design with enlarged flight controls was pretty cool and it did the most wicked KE spins. I can only imagine this one which is midwing (better)and the biggest plus for me is the pipe tunnel.

Guys I have the EF-88 Yak and love the sound and power of a piped engine. If the competetors were smart they might figure out the added marketability of pipe/canister accomodations.

Richard

It hovers at UNDER half power, on a DA with about 3 tanks through it !
Ive actually got a 2s2p on RX of 3000mah and a 2100 2s1p on igntion,

Works a Treat.
Havent had a weigh in yet.

Soon tho !

Here is a photo of the alternate color scheme for the 88 inch Extra. This is the 58 inch version but the scheme is the same. Pilot and dash/panel as well as Depron cockpit floor are included, but not installed. We have opted to use this scheme vs. the blue/white as we were having trouble with orientation, especially on the back side of rolling circles.

Not bad at all, of course, change the blue to black and you've got the same scheme (almost) as the yak. I really like it and the multicolored scheme is totally awesome.

I like it!

yarom -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/29/2007 11:18:36 PM)

Getting there Chris - almost perfect.

The last upgrade missing would be a cowl with a inner ply ring that attaches to the firewall with 4 bolts - like the Aeroworks and PAU models.

Alignment to fuse is perfect every time and there is less wear on them holes in the FG cowl.

Rush7 -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/29/2007 11:22:29 PM)

Chris, any update when these beast will hit the good ole U S of A? I think the yellow and blue is even better than the blue and white.

I had a little trouble with orientation with the 45" blue and white at first also.

Keep up the great work.

Totally agree. A cowl ring mounting system would be awesome!

DLEVETT -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/30/2007 12:19:55 AM)

Both of these schemes are spectacular! What a truly awesome job you guys [ Extreme Fight & Freestyle-RC] have done bringing these planes to the market, the bar just keeps getting raised higher and higher.

thx Dave

Chris, what would the underside look like for the wing bottom? I really like the large rectangles like on the posted earlier in this thread (red and white underside)

EXTREME FLIGHT -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/30/2007 6:07:22 PM)

The bottom is solid blue with yellow invasion stripes. This provides a great contrast to the yellow top. These Extras have been in production for several weeks and I am sure I will get the shipping notification soon.

TailTouch -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/30/2007 6:09:24 PM)

The new scheme is the best :)
I had issues with orientation on my blue/white 45" electric extra especially during low light and on those hazy days.

T Erickson -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/30/2007 11:27:29 PM)

Great news, Chris. My old eyes are real happy with the blue and yellow scheme on the little Edge, but at this point I'll take whatever colors get here first. How about a recap of extra stuff we might need to finish these babies off, so we can have it in stock? ie. extensions,arms, tank, axles, wheels, etc. Thanks, T.

A tip from a pattern flyer on the coupler coming off of the carbon pipe. Clean the end where the coupler goes on with alcohal, lightly sand it, put 10 or 15 wraps of kevlar thread stacked on top of each other. Soak it with thin CA. It makes a nice barb that will keep the clamp from sliding off.

Thanks Michael. I'll be installing a cannister system soon & that will be very helpful.

TomG3D -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/31/2007 12:30:18 PM)

T Erickson

You will need ! hehe

1.5 inch single metal arms x4
4 inch double arm x 1

SWB are popular and real good quality

you want 36 inch extensions for the elevators, and 12 inch for the ailerons.

I think we have used titatanium axles, unsure what size

Dubro 20oz tank

And dubro 4 inch wheels.

T Erickson -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/31/2007 8:31:17 PM)

Thanks Tom,
Was the 4" arm straight or offset? Also, what length engine standoffs did you use? I'm hoping to get it to balance with my good ol' ks1060, What do you think? Thanks, T.

TomG3D -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (8/31/2007 9:28:50 PM)

You want 2.5 inch Standoffs buddy, and i have the 4 inch offset arm on mine.

Flew it again tonight and all the problems have gone !!
Its absolutely awesome!
im going to get a video soon!

Carbon pipe is unreal, power is ballistic and the throttle response is there !

It did scare me once tonight, i had my regulator set at 4.8v, which is no where near enough, and i was doing fast snaps, and they kept getting slower every time, which really made things strange, so i landed, and realised i had forgot to put the reg to 6v !
ha!

Pics will be up in a few minutes.

Tom thanks for keeping the pictures and video coming. You are absolutely killing me though. I dont think that I have ever wanted a plane so bad. I love this plane and cant wait to get my grubby little hands on one.

awesome pics tom, you could still get her a bit lower yet though! [>:]

flat spin -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (9/3/2007 10:15:42 AM)

Just to add. Young Tom managed to pull 4th place in the Unlimited class of this years UK Freestyle Championships. First ever competition and with a plane he had only flown 10-12 times, I think that deserves some props. Well done Man!!

drewbags -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (9/3/2007 11:54:42 AM)

Not surprised, saw him fly when you guys came and gave us a demo up in Norfolk. Well done Tom.
