I think some patience and tuning is required here.It may not rocket out of a Hover, but is should fly just fine at 18 pounds.
Look at Jakes video,he just floats it around like a foamy.

i know, but the fact remains the airframe was built fat by at least 1.5 lbs, thats a big deal in a 50 cc aircraft, especially for 600 + dollars

I was considering going with a tuned set up, I was looking at the ES Carbon Pipe which supposedly is quite good, what r u running ? I spoke w/ a guy at ES and he said you could run smoke through a CF pipe w/o any problems. Right now my DA -50 is turning 6250 RPM on a good day, i need to change the prop 4 sure.

Sounds like you are a 1000 short and could benefit from a different prop, big difference.
Hang in there,I am sure it will get sorted out,and you will be happier soon.
Have a beer
The originator of this thread was running a DA and pipe, maybe chat with him

Im running a KS1060. Idk about running smoke through it though.Youll have to ask DA. WOW 6250! Mine is turning the 23x8 Xoar@6900 or so.. Its broken in also.50:1 Amsoil is what Im using now.Mine did really well on a Mejz.22x8.

Something is wrong, Were getting 7250 RPM with the 23A vess prop, Engine is not a DA so I don't know what a good number for it would be.

I admit that early on I was dissappointed with the weight. I weighed it all out of the box and knew it was going to be over 18 pounds. Mine is 17 pounds, 15.5 oz without the pilot and instrument panel. It has a B60 with stock muffler. Has one 7.2 oz rx battery and a one ounce 1-cell lipo ignition battery. It flies great, Chris has given me stellar service. Even knowing the real weight, I still would have bought it. I can understand your frustration hoping for something 16.5-17.5 pounds. I was too but I just got over it and decided not to make a fuss. I'm very happy with the plane. I'm just glad I have a B60 and not a 50cc engine.

Your DA is turning low numbers, that could be adding to your frustration. That 23x8 prop is too much for break in. Try a 22x8 until it's broken in. Also you may be running way too rich. First change props then re-tune. You will be happier with the 22x8. Also any 50cc engine is going to need a pipe to pull an 18 pound plane. It amazes me that someone can have a 16.3 pound plane and someone else a 18.3 pound. Where does 2 pounds come from? It's only a 50cc plane.

Joe thanks for the good comment, my options are

1) a Tuned set up

2) buying a B-60 (but it already says Desert Aircraft all over my plane)

3) putting a Da-85 in the plane - that would be nuts im not sure it could even handle it.

I am not going to discuss this at length right now.. been a long day and don't feel like typing ... but the fact remains.. at 18 pounds this plane has wingloading of 28.6oz which is extremely low for an airplane this size. I can think of another just as popular Extra that weighs 15.5 pounds and has higher wingloading. This thing is a floater..

6250 on a DA is way low.. get your engine tuned properly and you will be way happier

A 85 on this plane is rediculous
