and your right, i find the ES not too peaky, of course its going to be peaky cause firstly its a petrol and secondly its a tuned pipe, but the ES seems to be bang on!

I talked to DA, they said the slimline pitts muffler will kill 2 - 300 RPM's off the bat, I have a mejlik 23x8, they recommend a Vess 22A for break-in then the 23x8. I am waiting for the prop should be here friday. If the weather is good sat I hope to fly hopefully with a few hundered more RPM. If thr RPM still suck with the 22 A on there I will call DA back and see about sending the engine to them for a once over b/c even they said 6050 rpm - 6250rpm on a 23x8 is way low for a DA even one that aint broke in. Im not worried this is why i bought a DA, if it aint right the'y'll fix it.

> with the down time im giving the airframe a solid look to make sure all links / wires / whatever are A-Okay, dont want to lawn dart b/c of a $5.00 part.

> Also Chris at EF told me most people are comming in at 17.5 - 18 pounds with this airframe , so if your under 17.5 consider yourself lucky.

LIke I said at 18 pounds this thing has 28.6 oz wingloading... thats nearly foamy type wingloading for a plane this size. Ok I am stretching it a bit but find my another plane this size with that type of wingloading....

6packo...I don't remember you talking about tuning that DA (or I missed it). Did you lean that low needle to get the 4-stroking out of it? If it's running fat in the midrange it will run fat in the high. Where are your needles at? I have spent lots of time tweaking my DA 50 and got very good results. I'd just like to get an idea where your needles are adjusted so maybe I can help. Mine liked to be around 2 turns out high and anywhere from 1 1/8 low or 1 1/4 low depending how cold it was out. I always left the high needle at 2 and just leaned the low for a really good transition and midrange....then the high RPM's always went up with the low needle. It always tuned out really well on the high by only adjusting the low.

The other thing is that if you have your high needle too lean, that peak RPM will suffer. It usually drops when it's too lean, you can hear it. Let me know what it sounds like peaked. Does it drop RPM's after a few seconds or does it hold a steady at WOT? If it rises slowly it's usually too rich but normally the DA 50 can't be too rich unless they changed the carb's (doubt it).

Joe,
What spinner did you go with after the plastic one broke. I am going to send plastic one back and hope it works as a down payment for a carbon prop. I finally got an email back from NO LIMITZ spinners and props. I am going with one of their 4 inch carb spinners. It took me a while to get a response from them but its in the works. I got cowl on the way I like it, just a .125 over the former and it fits perfect. It took a lot of messsing with though. After I started cutting it went better. Module is mounted working on switches and then on to gas tank. Working so much has made this take way to long, also polishing landing gear to chrome finish took too long. Everything with me takes way to F*&*&n long.

How is your's flying? Where are you happy with cg at????

ES pipe is great dude. stick a 13inch header on there, Silicone high temp joiner as teflon always slips off and a jubliee clip on the tuned pipe end of the joiner, works great.
it gets really really hot, so make sure you mount it effectively.

Just get out and fly it and let it put a smile on your face!!!

My CG is on the middle of the wingtube! bang on !

I used the no limitz for about 4 weeks as you saw from the original piccies from the inital flights, the silver carbon one. and it failed. Threads for the screws stripped THEMSELVES! in flight and bits of the cone started to break up, i took it off before it failed but noticed it quickly.
I know of several others that also failed one of which almost killed the model.
Not saying there a bad product, just stating ive seen several go wrong in a short space of time

Mejzlik all the way!!

3DAP, I agree with Tom, ES composite pipe is fantastic, I'm on a 12" header. As for spinners, I always get mine from TBM as per
http://troybuiltmodels.com/SpinnersAL.htm#mpi nice and light, good value and looks great.

My CG is at 6.5", perfect...

3DAP,

I got totally lucky and found this guy selling a like-new True Turn P51 4" spinner with a lightened back plate ($65 shipped...it's normally $100 shipped). It's very light and looks awesome. My CG is near the 6.5" but it needs to go back a little more. It still pulls slightly to canopy in knife edge. If I move it back a little more I should get no coupling (but I'd rather pull up in a knife edge than down). It got better the first time I moved it back but I ran out of battery leads so I could only go so far back. I will solder on 6" extensions and move the battery to the back of the tunnel. Flying is great. The B60 is running awesome. I really like the plane. It's all they say it is. For 3D the CG needs to be behind the 6.5 mark IMO. For a good middle point between precision and 3D the 6.5" would probably be perfect. For my taste, aft of 6.5".
