That sucks dude!!!

I got the 9c as well but neglected to switch from pcm. Hopefully Futaba can get to the bottom of this, maybe refund you a plane. Start wrapping up the electronics and send them in.
There was another Extra lost with electrical problem maybe power expander, Jake will have to elaborate, but I do not think he found exact cause though.

Good luck. Sorry again for your loss. R.I.P

it was around 80 degrees today, I had heard about temp causing problems so i took off the canopy and put a white napkin over the radio gear to keep heat down.

Joe,

When I test ran the DA yesterday the idle ranged from 1800 to 2050 rpms. A couple of times it just stalled and quit. After idling
for about two minutes then advancing the throttle to full, the engine would sag and run rough through the transition. Full throttle seems fine holding a constant rpm but I'
m a little concerned about the idle. I don'
t want to fly until I have a reliable idle.

Almost sounds too rich on the low needle. It's probably clearing out when you goose it after it idles for a while. A rich low needle makes a really crappy idle, and yes it will die if it builds up too much fuel. Lean it out a little at a time and see if it improves. You gotta tweak these things to make them come alive. That's my experience. Out of the box needle settins totally suck from my experience. They are only a starting point to tune, not a setting to fly with.

I was there when 6packs plane went down! I cried for him ... we had to walk through about 1 foot of mud to get it because it rained the night before and the field we fly around is a farmers... the DA was buried... I'll stick with my 72hz futaba 9cap, no 2.4 for me... Now he has a good excuse to get one of those Dietrich EXTRA 260's!

Thanks nitro - less than 30 sec before i was doing a low knife edge pass over the field close to the flight line, there were many people out thank god it didn't fail when i was close in it could have killed someone. Planes are replaceable - people aren't, I am going to get on the horn to futaba tomorrow hopefully the get this fixed before someone gets killed.

So what am I doing wrong? I have over 50 flights on my 7 FAAST in the 74 inch Yak and around 15 in the 88 Yak.

These two planes talked about above, were they on the module or dedicated transmitters? I am oh so curious.

I just hate that you lost your plane. I hope you get down to the root casue. It will be interesting to see what Futaba says about this. If you dont mind keep us up to date on your findings.

I have been wanting to switch to 2.4 but it seems like there are still some bugs that these companies need to work out. I know you said that you were pretty pissed at Futaba but if you recall I think all of the manufactuers have been working out problems with the 2.4 systems.
I am pretty sure that there was a recall of some type on some of the FAST components.

I just wish that these companies would do there research a little better instead of using us as there lab rats. I cant stand to think that everytime we find an issue with these radio systems it usaully cost us $1000 or better.

6pack sorry to hear about your loss.. I know too well what that feels like.
My lost is semi unexplained although out of 5 new servos 2 motors and 1 amplifier needed to be replaced. I gave up trying to find the official cause.

I spent the entire weekend trimming my Extra.. I could use 1 washer under the bottom left corner to give me a tad of right thrust and a tad of up. I didn't get a chance to test it since we have 15-20 mph winds yesterday. No way I could really tell about trim in the wind. All mixes for flat turns and downllines were very small (under 5%). On a lateral balance she ever so slightly drops the right wing.. but you have to be really looking for it.

She felt locked in before but now she is really flying well!

That twist will def cause some issues... glad you found the source of your issues.

Well I just spoke with "john" at futaba service and the conversation was rediculious. He of course denied any problems with the product line ( its the 8 Channel FASST module with matched reciever). He was quite rude and abrasive, unwilling to discuss any potential problems in the product. I told him I would like a little understanding and do not appriciate his attitude, he told me he didn't appriciate mine. Needless to say he told me to send my futaba junk in for a diagnostic and that under no circumstances would futaba reimburse me the cost of an airframe if the defect was in the radio. Ok that I understand, but man they were REALLY REALLY RUDE, it blew my mind. I have been using futaba gear for years, its amazing... I am going to sell this junk after they look at it and buy a whole new radio - god i hate futaba right now.

6P, I forgot to say sorry for your loss. Thanks for the info, I wonder what the other failure was, a dedicated or module system? If there is a problem I would love to discover it before failure if possible.

well was abel to get more test flights in.
Result is perfect flight.
Tracks straight, KE no coupling, No wing drop in up line, locks into hover with little effort.
I am so glad I finally found the problem. Now its time to start having some fun with this bird.
