I don't want to get off topic too much... I flew Futaba for 3 years and switched to JR 2.4 and haven't had a problem. The people who are having issues with 2.4 aren't setting them up properly. It's amazing how many people at the field have receivers in places I would never dream of putting them in and then just got up thinking 2.4 is going to work fine.

At Nall there was what 608 pilots and 38 had FM?? Didn't hear about all those pilots going in did we? The technology is fine, however just like anything else you have to install it properly and power it properly for it to work properly.

COngrats on getting another Extra.. that would have been my choice as well

Now I heard from a guy at our field that the PCM rx's act quicker then the PPM,and the 2.4 is the fastest..
Cya,
Frank

If that guy meant that the response is quicker on PCM then he is not correct. PPM is a faster signal because it does not need to be decoded like the PCM signal does...FWIW I cant notice a difference either.

Jake, what prop and spinner do you have on your extra? I just ordered a mejzlik 22 8 and a Pete's Models 4inch carbon fiber
spinner. Curious about performance compared to a xoar 22 8 and an mpi 4inch aluminum spinner that I have now.

I have a Mejzlik 23x8 and Pete Model 4" Spinner on this one... my last one had same prop but a Dave Brown 4" Spinner. This one I moved the batteries a little further so I could use my CF spinner.

Pull out will be a little better, higher rpms, and should spool up a tad quicker I would think.

Ok guys, just got mine ordered today. I thought I posted this a couple of pages ago, but went back and didn't see it. (guess I need to press the OK button after I type!) I would like to know the quietest setup for this plane with a DA 50 with props, cannister and header recommendations. I don't 3D anything and just fly pattern and maybe might jump back into IMAC some. I fly electrics only so any gasser is going to be loud. I'd just like to know what you guys think.

Also, I've got 4 8411's and 1 8711 in a new 12X with the 12 channel receiver. It allows 2 separate batteries to connect to the receiver and has a bunch of redundancy in the satellite receivers. Is that enough? Everybody I've talked to say that's plenty and we all go way overkill on the 50cc planes. I plan on going to A123's I think, but don't know a source for the batt's, regulators and switches. I fly only Thunder Power, so this receiver stuff is all new to me. Web sites with directions would really help.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

John

Dude take it from me I just smoked an EF extra b/.c of an electrical problem, stick with FROMECO. I favor dual setup so here you go. 2 Fromeco A123's with deans connectors to 1 Fromeco wolveriene switch with deans in and deans out to a smart fly power expander. Some say the expander is overkill but here is my take. The servos for this plane draw crazy current, with all the servos running the draw may exceed what your reciever can put out. With 2.4 ghz this means the reciever will undervolt, turn off then turn back on and try to re-link with the transmitter = you crash. A power expander seperates the reciever power from the servo power so servo draw wont compromise power delivery to your reciever. In addition the wolveriene switch will ensure that you batteries power is drawn down at the same rate ie. the same if 1 battery is 70% charge the 2nd battery will be at 70 %. This is helpful because both batteries will have the same capacity to deliver current and should 1 battery fail the other will have ( assuming you charged it) enough power to get you to land. This highlights the other benifit of the power expander, it totally seperates the two batterys ie. should 1 fail the power expander will shut it out of the loop and only use the good battery. Sorry for the long discussion but I lost a 1000.00 aircraft over a 50 dollar mistake, so IMO over kill is not a bad thig. All the mentioned componets are light maybe you add 2 ounces weight but if it saves a crash its worth it. I spent a long time on the phone with Fromeco reps last night and I am convinced ther stuff is the best trust me man this is the way to go.

For you guys using the A123 I posted some research I did today in this thread; http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5423975/anchors_7581130/mpage_2/key_/anchor/tm.htm#7581130

There is an interesting pattern there and if you A123 guys can post your recharge results it would be nice to compare voltage vs/ mAh used.

Any problem with the 38 that had FM? I do know of one kid, that his 88"EF YAk went in at Nall,he was using the 6ch.FASST CRASH system. Someone from Hobby Lobby let him fly his QQ Yak during the week at Nall. Then sold it to him for a steal,RTF.. Great people in this hobby for sure!!

Sorry for going off topic but.....

Extreme Flight RC Inside Info!............
Chris Hinson is going to be distributing a new Engine from "Area 51". It will be 51cc
Check out this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQtp-XURsOE

Chris said that there is about 40 of these engines currently in the US and the response is good. Yes it looks like a DA especially with all the CNC work. Chris says that these engines are showing to be reliable and stronger than the DA 50. Comes with stand-offs, muffler, & ignition module. Price? $400. Oh Yeah!

Ok, now that electronics are addressed, what about the exhaust system? What's a good "bolt in" recommended system. I read earlier in the thread about MTK. If so, I know it's a 25mm drop non flex head wrap around header. What cannister and coupler. What prop for the DA 50? I like Mejzlik myself (sp) Spinner size? Just trying to get everything here so when the plane arrives, I'll have all the add ons already here.

John

PS A couple of questions for 6 packo. When I go with the Fromeco's, what do I get, the 2400's or 3600's and which expander for the 1221 receiver? There's alot on each page of the links and I don't want to buy the wrong thing! Sorry for all the questions...

Two 2400's on the reciever will be fine, you will also need one for the ignition as well. Also you need a swtich for the ignition, fromeco badger switch will be fine. You have a DA, so for the ignition set up run all futaba / JR connectors off your battery and switch. As far as the power expander the Smart-Fly Power Expander Sport (8 channel) should work fine. An advantage to the Smart-Fly Power Expander for 10 channels plus an equalizer ( EQ10 ) is that you can program your servo throws but if you have a hitec programmer then you dont need it. Basically just get the Smart-Fly Power Expander Sport (8 channel).

A good break in prop for the DA is the Vess 22A (with slimline pitts muffler i got 7250 RPM and just over 28 lbs of thrust)

On stock exhaust / pitts muffler mejzlik 22x8 or 22x6

A good 3D prop on a pipe / cans would be mejzlik 23X8

Spinner size is 4 inch, I had a mejzlik that looked awesome ( can get it from desert aircraft ) Pete models work nicely to.

ALSO READ THIS FROM TBM ON BATTERIES.

http://troybuiltmodels.com/newsite/planeacc/batteries/batterywhattoget.html

Also it is always a good idea to call Fromeco with your set up and talk to a Tech, just run it by them and see if they have any other suggestions, they are very very helpful, good company to deal with, i really recommend calling them, they always know best.
