Hi guys I just stumbled on this thread and I have a few things to say about ES pipes, last year I purchased a few of these pices of junk. Mine were installed on DA 50's the power was excellent but both pipes failed at around 10 flights the baffels came loose. To make a long story short Ed refused warranty and when I sent the pipes back to him he refuses to give them back to me. So I'm out $500.00 ED is the type of guy that will make any excuse to get out of warranty and I would caution anyone to not do business with him or at least be aware of what could happen. If I had got 100 flights on my pipes I would have been happy. I have since switched to KS pipes and I'm more than happy I have some with more that 300 flights on them with know problems Just my .02

Sure you have the right Ed ???

Ed has been fantastic to me after a pipe failed after loads of flights...
He didnt even ask for the old one back ! , bear in mind i am in the UK.
Newer ones have resdesigned baffles which will not fail..
I would use one again without a doubt!

Yep same ED he told me that I was the only one that had a pipe fail, told me I was running to lean, been flying gas for over twenty years and haven't seized one yet, I sure would like to get these pipes back so I could see what happened, but he's probably worried that I would post pictures on the net. In a funny sorty or way it's nice to heare that I was not the only one to have problems, just more lies from ED. as always just my .02

Well i finally managed to get a full days worth of flying in!

VERDICT = BIG THUMBS UP!

I think I have managed to fix the Stab incidence problem, as the aircraft requires only 2 clicks on up-trim to fly straight and level hands off now.

I also had the same "tail-wheel" misfortunate as a previous owners on this plane. All of my landings were very smooth, yet, after the lucky last 13th flight, my carbon tail-brace cracked on touchdown! I was really surprised, given how thick it is.

I also noticed that there was fuel in my engine box after every couple of flights. I can tell, because the castrol 2 stroke oil i use for break-in has a red color. I checked the plumbing and there are definately no leaks, so i am hoping it's simply because the engine is running rich at the moment. (1 1/2 for low needle, 1 3/4 for high needle)

This plane really flies light! Early on in the day, we had some strong winds. This made the plan buffet around pretty badly in flight. A guy next to me on the flight line commented how poorly the plane seemed to be handling the wind. Being on the sticks, I didn't agree, The plane was responding to everything i was telling it to do. With such little wing loading, it's no surprise this plane moves around when the wind is up, but it is always controllable.

Later on in the day however, when the winds eased, i found myself becomming more and more comfortable with each flight. In addition to this, the DL50 was really starting to come into its own.. pulling stronger and sgtronger with every flight. Response from idle to full was snappy and quick!

This plane/engine combo really is a pleasure to fly! All of the basic aero's that i attempted were awesome and predictable! Not to mention, its a sweet looking plane also! I commented to a friend who was watching "i could watch those flat spins forever!" He responded "that's probably not a good idea!" LOL

As i bought this plane for IMAC, i spent alot of time practicing my routine. I found this plane awesome for IMAC. It tracks so nicely, and with the large control surfaces, it responds so precisely! With this plane, I feel more confident with my IMAC routines. I haven't tried any 3D just yet because the engine is still so new, but will do so after a few gallons through the tank.

Ed.

Flew my Extra 300 this weekend. Had to put 2 clicks of up elevator to trim. Plane flew great. The Area 51 turned 7200 rpm with a Vess 23A. Plane hovered at half throttle. This plane had Hitecs and JR 8611 on the rudder. JR 9 channel pcm receiver. Bad Brad Graphics. Anyway thats the good news, on flight number 4 I was harrier and as I got about 100 ft up the I started to pull out of the harrier and plane took off at about 45 degree angle down and wide open, had zero control. Plane hit the ground, the wings broke away without a scratch, and the tail feathers are fine, fuselodge was totaled. The area 51 fins were bent and the standoff ears were bent. The crystal had come out of the reciver and everthing failed. I contacted Milton at RC Extreme Power and he said he would repair the motor and if he can't said he would replaced for half price of a new one. Milton does warranty as he advertises. I will contact Chris at EF about replacement parts to get back in the air. One thing I can say I do like EF products because they fly great, If you look in my trailer, I have four planes all EF products (88" Yak, Chen Yak, Elec Extra 300 and whats left of the 88" Extra 300 which I will rebuild.

Bill I really hated to hear about your Extra. I know how good it flies and hated to see you lose yours this early. Man I am sure Chris will help you out with some parts.
I think he helped 6 Pack out after his went in. I am sure he will do the same for you.

I have got to fly that Area 51 engine it sounds rela promising.
I was worried about my Yak today but all is well and it is in one piece. If I had of been down low when my prop came off it would have been bad.

Hey does this mean I get my landing gear fairings back.....

Take care buddy....

Bill
I was sorry to here about it also, I will do my best to hold down the cost of repair and get it back to you so you can get back in the air as soon as possible, I to know how much it hurts $ wise and other to have a new plane to go in.

Milton

Oh ok. Yeah you gotta tape those in. Sorry to hear of your loss. The nicer the plane the more it hurts....and this is a nice one.

I called Chris at Extreme Flight about the crash. I ask him if he could help me since I lost the extra 300 on the fourth flight. Chris has offered me a good deal to help get me back in the air. What can I say about EF loyality to their customers and this sport. Thats why when you look in my trailer, all you see is extreme flight planes. I would also like to further state that Milton at RC Extreme Power (Area 51 Engine) is treating me right also. With replacement service and such a great attitude, the power this motor generates, I will be hard pressed to spend hundreds of dollars more for a DA. I believe Etreme Flight and RC Extreme Power offer great products and service and we modelers/rc pilots should support them.

Glad to hear that you talked to Chris. I just knew that he would take care of you.
I met Milton down at the Atlanta Huckfest and talked to him agian down in Perry. I can garuntee you that the next engines that I have to buy will be Area 51 engines. The results that you were having on your 50cc looked real promising and if Chris is going to carry them then you have to think that they are top notch.

Anyways glad to see that you will have Extra II up in the air soon.
