Dudes !! It's all fixed. I did not think it was repairable (you should have seen it, pretty bad). Well it's stronger than ever and get this....it weighs the same. I have a very accurate scale and the added weight does not even register so it's less than a half ounce. It's all balsa and thin CA with some medium CA. It's strong as hell. If I had some extra yellow covering it would have looked like new. The best I could do was cover the tear in the yellow with clear monocoat.

I doubled up the big rib with a big balsa beam and medium CA. I used this big balsa beam stock (3/16"?) all over to add strength. No question it's going to hold.

Thanks to RCU member Albatross who was over looking at it. He just chuckled and goes "yeah I could fix that". He then gave me ideas what to do. Thanks Alejandro !!

Joe

Great job 6Pack. That covering job looks first class.
I had to stick a patch on my the other day casue I dropped it on the edge of the table while adjusting the wheel pants. Sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Joe great job on the repair. Glad to see that you are up and running again. Its also great ro have friends that have built a lot of kits. My buddy is a great builder and he has helped me a bunch when I huck up and plow one in.

soclarke -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/13/2008 2:52:31 AM)

Has anyone tried a spoke system in this bird yet?

Oh ya and tailwheel assembly. Any suggestions for a replacement?

Happy Landings
Scotty

JoeAirPort -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/13/2008 3:23:38 AM)

Spoke system? You must mean smoke.

For a tail wheel you can go graphtech. I recently bought the tail wheel for a H9/Carden Yak for $25 plus tax at the LHS. It's a decent CF tail wheel. It's held up to many not so perfect landings. The only thing I didn't like was that it was that the CF bracket had a small twist to it which made the wheel on a slight angle. Shimming the bracket would have taken this out but I just slapped it on. It works fine.

If you mean smoke then yes I have a smoke system it is awesome. Powerbox smoke pump off a 20ML tank to a tapped MTW header

nitro wing -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/17/2008 3:42:10 AM)

They are back in stock,and I've ordered one!!!
Finally after about 18 months or so,now I can take my time and put it together over the slow/off season months [8D]

pfoot748 -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/18/2008 12:39:02 AM)

Yep. Got mine today.

Rush7 -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/18/2008 1:11:12 AM)

Hmmm. That means if they are back in stock then I would assume that 110" Yaks are in stock also.

Sewerdude -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/18/2008 7:08:52 PM)

Hows the stab incidence on this bird? Everybody knows the problems they had on the 88 inch Yak. Mine was off a 1/4 inch. Are these problems fix on this Extra yet?

Jake Ruddy -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/18/2008 7:54:45 PM)

Some have had the issue some haven't... they are built by humans so you are never going to have 100% perfect all the time.

nitro wing -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/18/2008 9:31:28 PM)

Man,I've been on this thread since it started,I cant believe one is actually heading my way [8D]
I've done my homework,and own the 74" EF Yak.It had a small incidence issue,but was fixed easily.
When the 300 arrives I will dry fit it everything and make the adjustments as needed.
This is a new shipment,perhaps they have adressed this issue.

flyinrazrback -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/19/2008 12:10:50 AM)

For you guys running a full pipe, is the only cooling exit you have for the motor running out the back where the pipe exits, or are you cutting some out of the bottom of the cowl as well? With my BME 58, the entire engine is enclosed in the cowling. I am going to make a baffle in the bottom opening of the cowling to get air right to the cylinder head, but curious if anyone is opening up the bottom of the cowl or just running it out the back where it is open for the pipe.

T Erickson -> RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 50cc, 88.5inch Wingspan, Build !!!!!!! (10/19/2008 3:44:02 AM)

my DA head is exposed, then just the pipe tunnel open aft.[image][/image]

flyinrazrback I have the head exposed on mine but the temps seem to be a little high to me, so I opened up the bottom of the cowl a bit behind the head to get some of that hot air out of there.

I have yet to check mine but I see that all the parts are number matched now. My 110" was numbered the same way and everything was spot on. I assume what they are doing is assembling the planes in the factory and making any adjustments needed to get them fitting properly and straight-numbering all the parts and then those parts all stay togther. I'm in a hurry to finish mine with Winter coming-just need to mount the motor, pipe, batteries, and RX. I could have it done today but will most likely be flying the 110 this afternoon.

I had to cut open the front of my cowl and the pipe tunnel to cool down my Area 51. By the way Rush aka Clark he knows hot air.

Bill I learned everything I know about hot air by watching you. I have seen you launch many hot air ballons just by talking them up.[:D][:D]
