this engine is just super. i broke this thing in per instructions and it's just unbelievable. i've got it mounted on an edge 60 scale and it handles it real nice. i've still got the 13-8 break in prop on it and it's a bit fast but i'm going to run this set up for at least a couple of more flights and then try a 13 -6 to see how it goes. i might even try some 14 props. i'm sure the engine wil handle it. but like i said ..."WOW!".....it's perfect. i'm glad i bought the four stroke. i'm thinking it's a keeper.

Besides running great, sounds great also, doesn't it.

I fly a 14-4 on my 4*60. It would probably handle a 14-6 without trouble.

From my experience, a 13-8 pulls harder than a 14-6

i'll run the 13-8 for a bit longer but i think i'll eventually work into the 14 size and see what happens. probably try like a 5 or 6 pitch. should have plenty of vertical with that set up. i'm just so impressed by how strong this thing is. it's really amazing. i'm sold on these four strokes. and yessss...the sound is the best! sounds like the real McCoy up there.

The MA 14X6 was made for that engine.

I recently bought a second one. Its a great engine at a great price.

Bob

I got the XL80 on Ebay new in box. I might put it on a GP J3 76" Cub.
I don't see this size advertised anymore; just 70 and 91. I was thinking the 80 might be a dud and that is why they dropped it from the lineup. I hope not. I have read such good things about the 91 so I bought the 80.

Good luck with the Edge and your 91.

Huck

Mine turns a 14-7 3bladed in a the hangar 9 60 hellcat without a problem. It flies the exact same speed as the hangar 9 p51 fitted with a mag and 13-8 at my field. It was pretty cool. We were doing some highs speed passes over the runway, both at full throttle, and neither plane seemed to have a speed advantage.

I've got a 15X8 MAS on my .91 four stroke OS. It's on a Kadet SR. Pulls it around nicely, sounds great and will hold it in hover as long as I can hold it there. I like that I can putt around the field just a few clicks off of idle. Sounds great, I'll agree.

oh boy..sad times today. my rx battery was too low and the edge went down. it's pretty bad. i'm stripping it out and putting the 91 mag on my 50 scale pattern plane. thank god the engine didnt get hurt. i'll let you know how it goes. i put the 14-6 prop on the edge and it went awesome. unlimited verticle...no crap...i was so happy to finally get it to this point. i must have been too excited to thing about the battery. i have a voltwatch on the plane and it was showing green the second one from the strongest. i figured that would be ok but it went down. maybe it wasnt the battery. could have been something else i suppose. it made some wierd movements toward the end of the flight with no inputs from me and i thought i'd better get it back in so i was making my downwind to land and it happened.......straight down! anyway, i'll blame it on the electrics somewhere.....what else can you say. it wasnt a tip stall because this plane flys so slow and it's big so it's easy to see...i dont know. i just know it stinks and so now i get to start all over again.

I've been using 2 of the 91's for a while now with 14x6s for sport and 15x4 for some 3D. They are great running engines but not quite good enough for 3D as they just don't have the ooomf - maybe I should try a 14x4 but it seems to rev too high with that.

not sure about the 3D stuff yet with the magnum 91. all i know is the pattern plane flies like crazy with that power plant mounted to it. i've finally got enough power to pull vertical . it feels good but now i've got tons of trimming and adjustments to make....thrust angles will be the next thing i work on. this plane actually is quite nose heavy as it takes alot of down elevator to fly inverted so i'll have to mess with the C.G. a bit. also, this is the first plane i've had that will actually hold a knife edge and i'm able to fly it around the field. i've got the 13-8 break in prop on there right now and am going to try a 14-6 or 14-7. should give it a bit more pull. it flys plenty fast enough with the 13-8 i think it could slow down a bit. and i'll appreciate the slow characterisitic during the landing approach. also moving the C.G. back a bit should help with landing speed. so anyway, the magnum 91 survives the wreck and gets mounted on another plane and flown in the same day. it's a beautiful thing! that's one strong engine, thats for sure.

The one I fly the most is in a Sportsman Aviation Corsair (F4U) with an APC 14x6 and 15% as well as some 20/20 fuel. My friend has the identical plane with the OS 91 surpass in his. Identical setup, same prop and fuel and I'm usually just a smidgen faster.

It's a great sport engine and I really have had good luck with them. My plans are to pick up one of the 70s soon enough. I've got an OS 70 Surpass II which as good as the Magnum 91 is the OS is 100% better. Seriously, with the 70 I can pull a 14x6 prop as well at just a few hundred RPM less. It's a real power house and has an idle that is just amazingly low. If there is any chance that the magnum 70 performs even close to that - I'll be ecstatic.

good engines are hard to beat.

I have a .91 magnum fs that I am breaking in,,,, I have tried both the 13x8 and the 14x6 APC...(manual said the 14x6 was for break-in)

I had a issue with servere richness and not very good fuel pull....
Found that the gasket that is en-between the carb and the cylender head had blown a very small chunk out of the gasket... I found this out when I squrted some nitro fuel into the throttle body and low and behold I had a leeker righ out the side of the junction....!!!

THe gasket material is needed to take up the space so that there is not a allignment issue with the coarb bady and the cylinder head....So I had to take the gasket off one of my other 2-new in ther box magnum .91 4-strokes....

It is running good now but the HS needle is extremely sensitive!!!
RIght now, the needle is 3/4's turn counterclockwise from stop!!

Is this odd?

What are your HS needle settings?
I have never had such a closed needle setting before!!!

Also, the Needle will be a very abrupt, good ruch setting- to a too far I am going to shut down now lean setting in like 1/4 trun more! or maybey slighlty longer than that , but you get my point!

Need some input here!

Justin

hey kochj.....my hs needle on my magnum 91 is exactly one turn out from stop and seems to be good right there. what is your low speed set at? of course, all engines are different. yours sounds close to mine. i'm running a bit rich still but, this needle is very sensitive as well. just one click makes a change. this engine has super power and great performance. i'm running the 13-8 right now and will try a 14-6 as soon as i get it in the mail. should be here for the weekend. i'll let you know how she goes. but i'm really sold on the mag engines. they are a super value.
