Some of the history people say quanity is far more important than quality. That was proved by the ships that were built in the kaiser shipyards. They were not great quality, but we built them faster than they could be sunk. Therefore quanity turned out to be the deciding factor. In the begining of world war II on the german part of the war, almost everything they had was better than what everyone else had.But quanity and eventuly quality prevailed. German tankers never nicknamed T-34s as "Ronsons", instead they had so much respect for the russian tanks.........Many armour researchers consider the T-34 (all versions) the overall best medium tank of the 2ndWW.

From what I have read the main weakness of the T-34 ( and soviet tank corp ) was training and coordinated attacks ( which required a radio in each tank ). Deisel fuel is not flammable, while gas is, this led to the Sherman's erupting in flames on a fuel tank hit and earning its name as 'Ronson'. If you look at the British versions they have extra plating welded to the hull in vulnerable places like the fuel tanks and ammo storage.

T-34 was a tank tough, maneuverable, reliable and capable of traversing almost any type of terrain. It was undoubtely by far the best Allied tank of the war, comparable to the German Panther.
High velocity German guns that could easily penetrate the Sherman's armor, petrol engine and vulnerable ammunition storage, gave the Sherman the nickname "Ronson" It seems that it derivates from the Ronson cigarette lighter slogan, "Lights first time, every time." M4A2 were unpopular amongst russian tankers because of its thin armor and high silhouette.

Of course from a general's perspective, would you rather 5000 quality Panther's or 50,000 Sherman's in your army

50,000 Shermans obviously, and still better 50,000 T34s
But we were talking about which was the best tank, weren't? Strategy and numbers are different subjects of discussion.
