I've been testing my new Honey Bee King II and I was just wondering if Smoke coming off motor and seeing it light up a bit...... a normal thing?

I have the Canapy off so I can check it and I see it smoke while its on.

Please let a guy know if this is normal. Thanks

The short answer? Um, hell no, lol.

If you need a new stock motor, PM me, I ordered one I will never use, I'll give it to ya for the cost of shipping the thing.

My second brushed motor ( before I went brushless) smoked and sparked when it was new. I thought for sure it was toast. After I did the water break in, it lasted for 30 or so batteries until the bushing on the endbell wore oblong. It then wobbled and ate up the main gear (plastic gear) .I just read another post where the author changed out the bushing and kept his motor going.

For the stock motor yes he he he.
I Know it is not funny the stock motor gets very hot!
I would be concerned if you keep using the motor you are using you may kill your ESC or battery. So I would park it.
It sounds like the windings have gotten hot enough to burn the insulation off armature causing a short.
After you get the motor from bzinfinity, break in the motor.
The stock motor can only be flown a max of 3 min let cool down and fly for another 3 min or less.
After you notice you are starting to loose power try cleaning the bushes with a plastic safe break cleaner.
It helps if you can oil the bushings too. DO NOT GET OIL ON BUSHES!
good luck

I took mine off, placed in a glass of water and run it on a battery from my wizard for about 7 to ten minutes. water turns black
OIL bottom bushing before you put it back on.

I agree with Joe. I drop a brushed motor in a glass of water. I hook the motor up to two D cell batteries and run it until blackness comes out of the motor and into the water. It takes about 5 minutes, but always less than 10 minutes. Rinse it in as hot a water as you can stand and then blow dry the motor and oil the bushings at each end. This makes the motor run cooler from the get go...

would you do the same for a Brushless motor? Or this only applies to a brushed motor?

thanks again for the info

btw how do you hook it up to two D batteries? The two wires that attach to the ESC have some sorta connector.

(sorry for the lack of proper wording still getting use to all these new RC Heli Terms )

It only applies to brushed motors. It breaks in the brushes so they shape to the countour of the stator..
