GotSky -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/2/2008 2:15:10 AM)

Mine went out UPS so it will not arrive until Monday. And I'm only 60 miles from the warehouse.. No delivery on Saturdays with UPS ground[:o]

Charley -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/2/2008 3:37:23 AM)

No notification for me so I guess I have to wait for the next batch. Damn! I ordered it from HP just after Xmas. Had a hassle with that too because of a gift certificate.

GotSky -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/2/2008 10:08:15 PM)

I think I put my order around the start of November.. I know a couple guys from my club ordered in Dec. and were told the 1st batch was sold out already..

Capt. Crackup -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/2/2008 11:03:23 PM)

Hobby Club told me mine should be shipping out this week. I actually had 2 orders. 1 was the RDS8000 and 2 receivers, 2nd order was 1 additional receiver. The guy at hobby club said he is confident he has enough stock to fill both my orders.....Can't wait. I still need a 4th receiver.

I would like to thank Mike Greenshields for his thorough and informative posts regarding this Tx. His participation in this thread is a large reason I felt comfortable in purchasing this radio earlier today.[:D] I did a lot of research and felt that this radio was the most available for the best price. Now I am eagerly waiting for my LHS to recieve its shipment.
I did have one question regarding this post.

ORIGINAL: MikeGreenshields

The stock 8 channel receiver is 18 grams or so with the case on and can be operated with the case removed (heatshrink required of course).

Is the heatshrink something that the consumer will have to apply? And if so are there any tips on how to do so?
Thank you.

Charley -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/3/2008 5:42:41 PM)

Re: heatshrink,

You get some heatshrink tubing the right size and shrink a piece over the receiver circuit board, leaving the connector block exposed. Nothing complicated. [:)]

RCAddiction -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/3/2008 7:10:38 PM)

The clear "plastic" type shrink tubing that the RC car guys use for making battery packs is an excellent choice for this. It seems pretty widely available at hobby shops that sell RC cars.

adamic39 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/4/2008 1:26:53 AM)

Thanks for the clarification.

metalmetal67 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/4/2008 3:17:37 AM)

My apologies gentlemen, I missed the part on shrink tubing.... in reference to??????

Me me me me me!!!!

As I said above, I have one doing a review of RCU on it. I put it in a plane saturday night and flew it yesterday. As usual for Airtronics radios, it was simple all around to deal with. It took about 15 minutes to install the receiver in the plane and set up all my control surfaces. I took it an flew it yesterday and all I can say is that it performed like an Aitronics. Meaning it was rock solid. I had to land 3 times until I got the EPA on my ailerons set to were the plane felt good, but other than that it was a great radio. It worked flawlessly. I did take the plane out just as far as I could possibly still control it to and not one glitch with the system. It just worked. I wish I could have more exiting news, but that's it. It worked and it worked great.

According to FedEx tracking...mine arrived this afternoon, however I am at work and won't be home until 1AM so I haven't seen it yet.

bigedmustafa -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/5/2008 3:30:23 AM)

It looks like Tower dropped their price for extra receivers from $115.99 down to $79.99; after the FASST scare, they're probably just excited to have a spread spectrum radio system to sell that folks will actually want to buy! :p

Ken,
How is the 'feel' of this Airtronics RDS8000 as compared to Futaba 9Z or the JR X9303? Is it heavier? Is it lighter? How about the low-voltage cutoff, have you tried going into those details? Have you tried operating this 2.4GHz system with other 2.4Ghz systems around and if so, any issue at all? Do you have to pay particular attention to wires being run near the Rx?

Any additionla info you can share will be appreciated.

Thanks,
^R^

Don't blame Ken. RCU FORCED him to take it. He wanted to stick with his HeathKit system.[:D]

GotSky -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/5/2008 8:15:03 AM)

Mine came this afternoon. I'll post some pictures in the morning. It looks great, feels the same as the RD8000 maybe a hair lighter. I'll put them both on a scale to see what the difference is. It feels very balanced and the stick movement is typical Airtronics (PERFECT). Man I hope this weekend is nice I can't wait to get out and use it....

Capt. Crackup -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/5/2008 11:39:41 AM)

You guys are KILLING ME!!!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to get mine. As I said earlier, I ordered mine on 5 Dec and according to Hobby Club, it should ship during this week. Again, I would like to see this forum continue as I look forward to hearing all the ins and outs of the RDS. Correct me if I'm wrong, (In reference to a previous post) but right now none of the 2.4 ghz manufacturers equip is compatible, and as I understand there is no standard in which to adhere to. ?????????????????? I am looking forward to hearing all the comments on the RDS and I wish you all good luck with yours. Skip D

GotSky -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/5/2008 5:26:31 PM)

Well here are a couple of pictures. For those that are worried about weight[;)] rest assured this radio is a whole 2 oz's lighter hahaha.. Everything looks great as I said before. You'll get a charger and switch harness with your radio as well ( I'm sure we all assumed that was the case) the manual looks great and is very clear and concise. I did find only one option that I like not on this radio. For some reason they chose to go with a non toothed stick. Meaning there are no teeth on the top of the stick. It looks like the old style with the pit in the top . I do prefer the small teeth as they grip my thumb a bit better. Maybe this is something Mike can look into and have changed. All of the RD8000's came with the grip top maybe it is something they can change on this one. Happy flying[:D]
P.S. Did I say how stoked I am right now. LOL

Capt. Crackup -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (2/5/2008 6:33:52 PM)

Does the RDS 8000 have "Model Match" (???) like Spektrums radios?
Thanks Skip D

I prefer the non-toothed stick ends myself.
