If you like the machined, anodized sticks, they are available separately in different colors. So, not only can you change the ends if you prefer, but you can even get different colors!

The RDS8000 as is wil come with the sticks as shown in the pictures.

Mike

I've been sitting back reading this post since it began and contemplating whether I should pull the trigger. Finally got the best of me so I've told Tower to send me a tranmitter and 3 additional receivers... I'm sure I'll order some more receivers later to convert majority of my hanger, but this is enough to get me started...

My brother has all Airtronics gear and always speaks highly of them. Among other things, I like the fact that the LCD screen is above the joysticks. Maybe it makes the case a little taller but I would guess it's a little easier to glance at while you're flying (if you have to...).

Ditto on comments about Mike being up front and informative at all times. You've got a loyal fan base

A future Airtronics Convert...JLS

Does the throttle gimbal ratchet or is it smooth?

ModelMatch and ServoSync are not featured on this radio. It has typical multiple model memory like most 72mhz computer radios.

Can someone post a pic of how the radio balances with the neck-strap installed?

It seems to me that this radio wouldn't be as far off balance as others, because the screen is located above the sticks. Just wondering.

Thanks Mike, So far I haven't needed ModelMatch or ServoSync. I don't think I'll need it in the future. Sounds like a good idea, but I am fairly confident that is why the model selected is displayed on the LCD(imagine that). Thanks Skip D

The radio hangs "bottom" low about 10-15 degrees. If you want it to hang level, we will move the mount for you and will not charge you to do so (although you'll have to ship it to us). Moving the mount is fairly easy although the tech has to do it becuase there are 4 pc boards that have to be removed to access it. Our tech can do it in about 5 minutes. But if you're not familiar with the wiring, etc you can destroy the radio!

I find the angle it hangs at is perfect for me.

Went out for a quick fly today with the radio in both my GP yak (Moki 2.10 power not gas) and my Golden Eagle FP-1 (moki 2.10 power not gas). First off let me say that I have been flying with the RD8000 for several years now and you will be happy to know that after setting up the new radio with the same trims and specs that I had saved in my old 72 band radio the new radio did not need any new trims upon take off. Everything transfered over exactly as I had had it before. Also let me add the this radio works PERFECTLY!!!. Reaction time on the sticks the servo movement seems a hair quicker but it never really was that slow on the other radio. The radio feels very light and balanced while flying ( I do not use a neck strap). Not one issue to report. Ground range check was far better than my old radio. Also did a test putting the plane behind a chain link fence and walked away about 150'+ still had perfect response on all surfaces ( motor was running at the time of test). Great job Mike and Airtronics it was worth the wait..Now I just need about 10 more recivers. ....Happy flying

Well, it appears as though my RDS might not ship this week. Hobby Club isn't very imformative. Hopefully find something out today. Much much much sorrow. I am happy to hear about yours Gotsky. So it does appear faster than your RD? Sounds like the RDS is going to be worth the wait. (2 months so far) Also do I understand there is no rachet on the throttle? Thanks and I wish you continued good luck. Skip D

Yes it seems a little faster in response time, but I have no real way to test.. The rachet on the throttle is there but it is very smooth and/or subtle. I'd say perfect is a good word to describe it .. So far so good..
